    O/O local/regional

    Hey all!

Decided to join since I could not find any info on here about my topic.

I work LTL and have been wanting to get my feet wet in the owner op world. I never have cared much for OTR, especially now with the birth of my son.

My question is, can a decent/profitable living be made as an owner op, while working locally/regionally and being home every night? Or 98.9% of the time?

    good luck finding that work.

It'll likely be containers or something like that.

Most LTL loads on Friday. For either Sunday or Monday delivery. depending on what you need to put money in your pocket you could have your weekand in the middle of the week. Not the most ideal but hey. It is what it is.

Everyone puts down hauling containers but I run about 360 miles a day, 5 days a week. I'm home every night and off every weekend; and when I say weekend I mean get home about 430 Friday evening and stay there until Monday morning, not that home for 34 hour crap!!

I clear $1,700 to $2,000 a week after fuel and deductions; I average $1.83 per mile for ALL miles and am usually empty 50% of those miles.

The downside: I'm usually over gross, sometimes the port in Virginia is backed way up, and listening to all the people who think container freight pays peanuts!!

I would say containers and intermodal is the way to go.

Sounds like the container thing is the thing to do if you want to be home everyday and weekends. I thought containers paid less myself. Not that $1.83 is a goldmine but it will get you home. I'm assuming the company pays those overweight tickets and the fuel is added to the buck eighty three.
However, I can probably count on one hand the people I know that quit an ltl job.
