I took my company truck in for a service the other day and the mechanic pointed out to me that I had moisture in one of my side turn signals. When I get it back later this week I am going to pop them off and wipe them dry. Not enough to fail a DOT, but one of those little items you have to check on from time to time.

Are they "making work" on you? Fixing things that are a wee bit worn but not yet broken?

I'm starting to feel sorry for you having to fix all this before you can make any money.

I know the feeling, back when my brother and I bought the truck we paid $18,000 just for the truck and then immediately put another $18,000 into rebuilding the engine before putting it on the road.

Sounds like they are only charging enough to cover the mechanics wages. That is an very very nice break.

I think this is a much better time to put money into it than once it's on the road. Then you loose income when it's down too. This happens with any used truck you buy.
They do sound super picky but that is a great shop rate. I know mechanics who make more than that hourly. We get $60 and we are not a public shop.

You are better off with percentage pay. How is that a bad thing?

You know going over a truck with a fine tooth comb isn't such a bad thing. It makes driving a lot less stressful. That way when you pull into a DOT check and they want to look at your truck you can smile at them and not have to worry about getting shut down.

When I had our trucks leased to TRL they were real safety picky like that. It was god but after awhile it got old since everything had to be done in there shop and we couldn't fix stuff on our own trucks if they found it.
That was long long ago though
