Better Solution...Start a CSA Scoring for brokers/agents and hold them up to a ''professionalism'' and ''honesty'' like they do us.If they continue to screw us,put ''jail time'' on there butts, like they do us drivers..

    EQUALITY...

the driver is not privy to the total, only what he was told

    THIS is why THIS
"And once again who cares what the company is making. You should only be concern on the percentage you are making.
    " IS WRONG

Let me ask you this question. How many times have you asked LS to see the freight bill? If you have not ask, then you cant complain about skimming on bills.

Very WRONG indeed...EZX1100.What it comes down to is that ''drivers'' have no balls and are scared of ''confrontation''.So they just take it in the hershey highway and move along. All along saying ''it don't matter''...''This is good enough for me''...WRONG WRONG WRONG.

In my world,IT MATTERS..And i ask Landstar for the ''original'' freight bill everytime i think a broker/agent is SKIMMING.Or i will not go forward and committ to the load.I have a long list of ''questions'' and concerns before i will turn the key.

Landstar and the agents will toss any BCO under the bus for MONEY.

To answer the question,YES YES YES...Just look at the 2% L/S was skimmimg off the top of drivers and OOIDA took them to court.Granted now they don't do it this way,i am sure they ''hide'' it in many many ways..Landstar Profits MILLIONS and Millions every quarter. They DO NOT OWN anything at all.It is all leased..How do you think they profit Million and Millions.?

Back when I leased to Landstar they paid on 98% of the rate. It was 67% of 98% for power only. I think it was 75% of 98% if you had your own trailer. I believe that they now pay 65% of 100% for power only and 73% of 100% if you have your own trailer. They pay a slightly higher rate for more specialized trailers. I was told at the time I was there that the 2% was for insurance. I offered to pay for my own insurance at a lower cost, but they would not agree. The money is essentially the same, but the numbers are more up front. I believe that Mercer pays on 99% of 100% of the line haul rate.

Landstar and most other carriers are up front with their fees. Everything is in their contract. It is up to the owner operator to read the contract before signing. It amazes me at how so many owner operators and driver will sign a legally binding contract without having first read it. Then they complain when something goes wrong.

If you want to eliminate the fees and hidden charges, you need to get your own authority and find your own shippers. When you deal with brokers, you don't usually know what the shipper is paying. You also may not know whether the load has gone through another broker or 3pl. A 3pl is just a fancy word for broker. They get around the double brokering stigma, by calling themselves a 3pl. Some 3pl's do work on a flat rate and some may do more than just book freight, but you may never know for sure. The best thing to do is to find a load and if you don't like the rate, walk away.

There are a lot of people with their hand in our pocket, from the 3pl to brokers to some carriers to truck stops and repair shops to the government. Some brokers are more up front than others. There are a lot of carriers whom you can lease your truck than Landstar. I have had a good relationship with them for many years. Even with all the fees, I managed to still make a living when I leased to them. I didn't like the fees, but I knew when I signed their contract what I was getting into. I don't have anything negative to say about them. I have others with whom I have had long relationships and have had good relationships with them as well. Most have fees of one sort or another. You either accept the terms or don't do business with them. I really don't think much about the fees. I have a rate that I want to receive and if I get my rate, then it is not really important in the grand scheme of things. The big thing is honesty. If someone cheats me or I believe that they are not being fair with me, then I don't do business with them. That is my attitude whether I am dealing with brokers, shippers or another carrier. You cannot control how others do business. You can only control your own business.

That caught my eye also. I did about 135K miles and netted just over 70K.
