As some of you know i am doing the semi retired, part time trucking business. So with alot more time on my hand i decided to make some cash by starting my own small mowing business. As a result i found the ''freedom'' alot of us lost some time years ago in the Trucking World.

While i was doing my lawns it dawned on me that trucking is truly a OVER REGULATED money grabbing political Business. As i got started i realized this was the ''feeling'' i lost many years ago in trucking. That American Feeling of FREEDOM OF CHOICE.When i go after my small business of doing peoples lawns i realize how very DIFFERENT it is..I only ''thought'' i had freedom at Landstar..:biggrin_25526:

When i set my weeks up i am in 100% command with my customers.I talk to them directly. There is no ''broker/agent''.No middle man screwing me along the way.No 5 hands in the pot.I get paid cash and by check when the job is done.

When i hook up my trailer there is no DOT and all the B/S along the way.No ''special'' CDL,Hazmat, endorsements, piss tests, physicals and paperwork along the way..It is quite refreshing to be an AMERICAN..:biggrin_25525:

I have no one telling me NOTHING accept the customers.I have no DOT CHECKS,no log books,no one telling me when to go on break and when to sleep..No HOS RULES and some Government Money Grabbing ####a Roach in my pockets extorting my Hard Earned Money..It is refreshing to feel like a ''businessman''...We can add to the list of ''benifits'' and ''freedoms''...

Needless to say i cut 7 lawns a day for 5 days this week and made 900.00.This only took me 7 hours a day to do.I worked at MY PACE and took as many breaks as i wanted.I even stopped home 3 times during the day and grabbed a bite to eat and relaxed. It was very relaxed and 100% no pressure...So far so good for some extra money while i do my Over Regulated Commie Trucking Business Part Time..

I kept asking myself while i was doing my small business. Why and how did trucking become so screwed up.?.In every aspect of trucking we are really not ''FREE'' Businessman. We are 100% dictated to anymore. So sad trucking has become what it has..I myself am working my way out of the Commie Controlled Trucking Business a little at a time and there really is a BETTER LIFE after trucking.

Depending on the area of the country lawn care can be controlled pretty heavily too.
DOT messes with guys with the "little" trucks and trailers too.
What ever letter agency will stop them to check for chemicals on the rig and ask for their applicator's license.

If you did 35 lawns in 5 days for only $900 I would hope they were all VERY small, other wise you'll be going broke quick.
I gross that much a day, but I don't go home during the day.

Good luck with your retirement efforts.

Just give it time. We are headed down a path where everything will be regulated.

In the purely socialist countries you always find a lot of black market cash businesses. When governments over regulate and over tax, people find ways around it. They open small cash businesses and buy and sell on the black market to evade both regulation and taxes. That's hard to do in the trucking business but Uship is probably a good example. A lot of people hauling unregulated for cash. As we become more and more socialist in this country more people will be looking to work in the underground economy.

It is funny you say this. Now that i am ''home'' alot more and seeing whats going on,i see alot of this..It is amazing the people that are doing what they have to do to SURVIVE.!!!!..There are so many scams and cash jobs around its unreal anymore...

The Government has created a black market and created the people to be more corrupt than ever.

It's the foolishness of the socialists. Some of the countries in the world with the highest tax rates actually have very low collection rates because people go into the cash economy. A human beings natural spirit is to be free. The jack boots want to stand on your throat but a lot of people find ways around it.

    De-regulation is a misnomer.

I think you are on the cusp of a new gold mine based on the Landstar business model. where you knock on the doors of old people and contract them to mow the lawn. Then you broker that out to a kid with a lawn mower and take 50%.

You only pay the kid when the lawn owner pays you. Kid must have own insurance and assumes all lliability. If the lawn owner complains you don't pay the kid. If the kid is late mowing the lawn you don't pay him. The kid cannot back solicit.

You can call your company "Lawnstar" and claim you are the best.

IF you think we are over-regulated now, what was it like in the mid-60's when you had to submit a rate schedule, have to deal with multiple state jurisdictions (what were they called when you had to have all the plates and stickers displayed?) and the feds actually employed a number of restrictions on what you can haul.

I was taught by a guy who started to drive in 1948, he had his own company in the 50's and 60's and told me since they eased up on everything when he started to teach me, it was a breeze to run his business. He predicted that starting a trucking company for interstate work will be really easy one day, allowing anyone to start it without jumping through hoops - we've been living with it for a while and wonder if it is working out for all of us?
