Hi guys
We are about to pick a Kenworth truck but stuck between the T660, T680, and the T700. What is the main difference between the three? All we can find is the cab size and the T680 is a little more aerodynamics. We are also thinking of picking a Ultrashift with a ratio of 3.55, and we are planning on pulling a 8 car trailer. Will this combo with a Cummins ISX 550 eng? Will the 425HP be enough to pull 8 cars cross country?
Thank you so much

Any engine above 400 Hp will pull 80,000 Lb Gross Wt. the more horse power you add the worse MPG you will get some times when you have the truck on cruise control and the engine needs to drop a gear to stay in the green zone the higher the HP the less likely the engine will drop that gear and it will continue to pull @ higher RPM which will Drop the fuel millage of the engine. If you want the Higher HP then you really need to skip the cruise control as much as possible.
The best way to buy higher HP engine and keep the cost down is to get the 550 hp and then Govern the engine to 450 hp this way the engine will last a long time & the MPG will be @ best and that's my story & I'm stickin to it 10/10John from Oregon, Godcreatednu and csmith1281 Thank this. -
Currently driving the T660 2010 Areodyne for 2 years. Very small inside but quite maneuverable. Have heard the T700 is just a T2000 with a high ceiling.
Took a tour of the T680 the other day, nice compromise between the other 2 models, more open inside the sleeper, nice layout etc. Main thing I did not like lol was the lack of deep little pen/pencil cubby hole in the dash where I keep some pens in my truck now. T680 does have little cubby hole in dash but they are only a couple inches deep? I cannot see anything someone could put in there that will stay in there.
By the way, I was in the KW shop getting a new defrost/A/C fan put in. The lounge was full of drivers with the newer DEF trucks waiting for their trucks to be worked on, informal survey, most of them were for emissions work and 2 guys were for driver door problems like one guy said he used the key fob lock/unlock and now door will not open at all and the other guy said his door is so bad out of alignment he's afraid to open it because it is too hard to close so these guys enter/exit out the passenger door.csmith1281 Thanks this. -
wow, that is bad information.....
Castrate the truck, you will lug it to pull a hill. Lugging the engine will kill your MPG faster than having it turned up to the max power setting.
You want to get better mileage, watch your start and stops, try to avoid sudden jack-rabbit starts especially. Don't feel compelled to drive faster/slower than the sweet spot that the engine/driveline is set-up for. On the newer engines, that's around 1300 RPM.Khukha, csmith1281, Brandenjw and 5 others Thank this. -
I agree, you want max hp and keep it in the sweet spot

anybody know the warranty on a brand new 2013 truck from kenworth? We read that it is 1 year/100,000 miles. Is that it? Why so low?
