Im looking at some truck VIN# and the trucks are 1500 miles away, But Im trying to figure out What it means about the engine when the 8th digit is a (C) This truck is a year 2000 freightliner and has only 48,713 Original miles on the cummins. / Another has a (A) for 8th digit and it has 181,969 miles on it also a 2000 freightliner. Does anyone know what this means? And how will I recognize a N14 cummins? They have quiet a few of these trucks. Id like one with a decent engine. Most of the Trucks with the Cats, and Detroit's have around 300,000 on them.

Were they site trucks that never hit the roads? Or town, city, county that just drove away from the bosses line of site and then parked till quittin time? Thats just super low miles for that year.

Thanks for that. Call the truck dealer for that brand, they will be able to tell you, with the VIN, what engine came from the factory. I had a N-14, was not impressed with the cam follower set up. If the side cover leaks, you need to remove the whole valve train along with the jakes. Then hope you can find the part number on the old deteriorated gasket to get the correct thickness to replace it with. And then have the whole overhead "timed" as they call it, so that your injectors dont wash down the cylinders and blow pistons. Thats just one of my problems with them.
