I have been trying to get a quote from Trucking insurance Companies including OOIDA, Lancer, North-Land and many others but have not been able to get a written quote in two weeks. Lorie from OOIDA added the question about my race and told me that Underwriters need to know the race as well. My question is if OOIDA claims to help Owner Operators are they specifically for a certain color? And is it allowed by our constitution??? Now I have been told that Lorie does not work here and they say the OOIDA Insurance is overwhelmed with calls so she can't connect me to the agents (very clear from the audio). In the audio it is clear that Lorie took the interview as an agent for OOIDA Insurance Dept. See attachment of logs. Where is this country going???

More than likely it is legal to ask and I highly doubt that discrimination is going on - everybody's money is green no matter what race they are. Do you have a complete application, with a copy of your MVR, current loss runs, an equipment spreadsheet with VIN's, etc...make sure your application stands out and is complete. An incomplete app is like trying to ride a bike with a flat tire, it doesn't work. The post says nothing about you being new in business or how many years out on your own. If you are new in business, that may be causing the hold up.
If you still feel race is holding you up, then just put whatever race down you feel best accomplishes the goal of getting a quote.cetanediesel, Lilbit and dannythetrucker Thank this. -
Just answer "human" to the race question . OOIDA has always been great on the phone to me.....

I tried to get a quote from OOIDA a few months ago. I had a terrible time getting into contact, waiting to hear back, on hold, etc.... Just to eventually find out I didn't meet one of their basic requirements.
I don't know if they are truly so busy or just incompetent, but it doesn't really matter. If they don't want or need your business bad enough to get you a quote in a timely fashion I suggest looking elsewhere.areelius and cetanediesel Thank this. -
There are many organizations and companies that ask for ethnicity but normally its only used for research to see what area of the population the attract and cater for.
I have nothing to do with the insurance industry but have heard Progressive offer competitive rates. asking wouldn't hurt.
Sorry don't know the number. -
North-Land says $11000/year for Dry Van, 38k ifta miles, clean records, 4 years company establishment and a year more than that OTR. Owners Credit excellent, $18k value for physical and $2500/ deduct. Clean Loss Runs and CSA. If you have to by the $11000 for 38k miles yearly that equals 29 Cents/mile. That will bring the base running price per mile close to $1.83/mile. Carolina Casualty which I currently have, their service sucks. No quick access to cert-of-insurance even if I format the name and address for them. I am paying approx 20 and a half Cent per mile for insurance, as if we were in the war zone. I have interviewed many O/Os who pay only $600/month (10 payments) with $1000 down. 6 years experience (with unclean Lic) with Reefer brake down. total of $40k value for physical damage. They all have way more exposure (110k miles/year) than mine (40k miles OTR)
