NEW DRIVER with some questions

I would wait till you have a couple years under your belt before you think about running your own authority and getting your own truck, get the exp. and contacts and get use to driving a truck for a company and learn the ins and outs of everything, no need to get into a rush to run solo. that's my two cents.

 

You have no clue what the industry is like,how it works.Why not get some exp say a yr then come back and ask those questions.

 

you wont have much say or control over your income like your thinking, you call and they tell you what they pay you for a load, get exp. before you get your self in debt and then its to late to go back, being a company driver is not that bad they get your loads for you and if you get into the right company the pay is not that bad and you don't have someone breathing down your back, but do what you want its just better for you if you get a little exp. under your belt first, and safer for the other people on the road.

 

It sounds like, from your post, that you have money that you would like to start a trucking company with.

If you told me that you had $500,000 in cash to start with one truck with you driving yourself, and you have no fear of watching it burn like the towering inferno, then it's a good idea.

If grandma left you $50,000, you probably have about the same odds as putting it on a roulette wheel.

Lack of experience costs money. I don't mean this in an offensive way, but that's the fact.

I remember reading about an o/o that had mega experience, and about $200,000 in cash. I believe that he said that it actually cost him between $100 and $150,000 to get started. That was with experience, money, and a solid plan. Be prepared to multiply this number with lack of experience.

This is a business that many, many fail, only in part because of what I've said. Take a few weeks and scour these forums, all the information is there.

Nobody goes into this business thinking they will fail, but more fail than survive. I admire your spunk, but there is so much more needed beyond that. Think carefully.

 

Like everybody said get exp first u don't even no yet how to deal with shippers/receivers yet. We understand the rush to earn money but its not easy dealing with brokers. U come across a few dishonest ones. Yea true there is money to be made u will have great weeks then u have weeks wondering WTF happen to the money. Get out there learn what u need to at least 6months dealing with brokers they may not use u because u have no exp. As far as buying a truck u need at least 20% down with good credit for first time buyer and 10% if u have cosigner that has bought a truck before. So newbie get some experience first

 

Do you have endorsements? The endorsements are like money in the bank and also give more options to the better paying jobs. Much depends on the hiring area you live in; which state or city & state?
