I bought a truck I had not seen in years, sight unseen. A real Truck Driver owned it. Fresh in frame, new clutch, rears, rubber, brakes. 2/3 full of fuel. And 2 dozen cookies to go with it. Western Star. Ugly truck, great truck, My truck. Longer frame, longer sleeper, it will be a runner.

If I had realized I would be getting razzed for putting a deposit to hold one of these trucks for me, I would have never wasted my time sharing all this... I came here to give newbies a perspective and to help others thinking about buying there own truck..

Thanks people for reminding me why I stay to myself on the road...

POSTED: Tuesday, May 24, 2011 If you don't want to take the time to really look over a used truck that you are going to purchase from a dealer and you don't want to have it inspected before leaving a dealer's lot, then you probably should not be in this business.

People are always trying to find ways to put people down on these boards. You knew it was coming.

I am interested though. Why are you more looking into a Pete over an International? Resale value? Motor?

the deposit put it at lone mountain is when the truck is being transferred to that location and is a means of showing a buyers seriousness of doing a deal, it is not uncommon at all in all sorts of transactions.

he will have an opportunity to have the truck dyno and inspected at a place of his choosing, if the truck doesn't pan out, he can get it back. if you don't do the dyno and inspection, they have you sign a paper saying you were given this opportunity and declined.

I will make my last payment in early feb on my lone mountain t600, its has done well for me. I am happy and there has been no problems, you make the payment every month and no problems.

its been a easy transaction, now myself I looked over about 18 t600 marten kenworths, there wasn't an iota difference in any of the them, the interiors were in great shape, I finally narrowed in down to 3, and then drove them again as well as my brother in law drove em, picked the one we both agreed upon and had it inspected and dyno done. it all checked and here I am over 300,000 later with a clutch put in and replacing all rocker bolts in top end after only one broke(preventative and went to cats updated rocker bolts) the clutch went out after 200,000 miles and the rocker arm went out at 295,000 miles after I got it , when I got the truck it had 531,000 and now it has 870555 as I sit here typing this.

and maybe due to the way I drive and brake , the truck has the same brake shoes and are still over 50 per cent. as are the ones on the same trailer I been dragging for the past 3 years.

I have put a set of tires on it, added a bypass oil filter, maintain it , keep it clean , added a apu , 2 rear wheel seals, a fuel return hose, a upper radiator hose (4 inch section), and a couple of other minor things.

she still holds 65 pounds of oil pressure hot and the cat purrs like a kitten. and as I said you make the payment you wont be bothered. I cant say to what happens if you are late and I have never been late with one, that's is due a lot to the fine outfit I am leased to Mercer out of Louisville,ky

    now hows that?

Me and my boss purchased my truck from lone mountain in October of 2012 (2007 379) So far so good the process was smooth and easy. We drove down to Tifton took the truck to the nearest CAT dealer for a Dyno and DOT passed with flying colors Since then We have Replaced a Fan Clutch, Rear End, and I'm in the shop now for the Fan Hub. Truck has been nothing but good I have nothing but good things to say about Lone Mountain!

Lone mountain is a good truck dealer ,but get this advice s from me
_Dont buy very old truck ((more than 3years is very risky))
_After you sign the agreement ,please take it to a place that you trust and ask them to do a very caution inspection. ((lone mountain will not cover any issue after 48h))
_Lone mountain only cover some part on the engine and hope you find an extended warranty on your truck.-
_Get ready for a physical damage WITH GAP insurance its a little expensive..((they will refer you to some agents))
Me and some of my friends we got our trucks from them ,they will not bothering you as long as your insurance active and your payment on time...

i bought my volvo d13 in july 2012 from them and thats 1year after i got my cdl , i put 195000 mi in almost 16 month under interstate dist cop authority and jacobson company i average 2100 to 2500$ week after all expenses , am starting 2014 with my own company and authority Hanibal trucking inc

i saved some good cash $$..but i experienced lot of brakedown because heavy loads and mountain in oregon ,montana , ca as well...so try to stay on light loads and away from mountain to avoid brakedown and wear...if you need more infos call me 8016576763 and please mention my name to lone mountain ,hamed aloui....good luck

I bought my last truck sight-unseen from a dealer in Kentucky. Sent him a deposit to hold it, made the deal conditional on my final inspection of the truck. Flew from CA to KY, we drove it to Cincinnati for a dyno & ecm dump which checked out fine. Four days later I was in OR, under a trailer headed for my first load. That was a decent truck until Grandma made an illegal u-turn in front of me. Right now I'm negotiating with a dealer in Texas for a T660, same process & it seems to be working well.

In the age of the internet I think this is a normal and intelligent way to buy a truck.

Yea, I should have known it was coming...lol

As for why the Pete ?? Never been a fan of International's or Volvo's I was looking for a KW, then I saw the Pete's

A used truck, is a USED truck... To me it doesn't matter who you get it from, Like others have said on here and other threads, You have to do your homework.

I showed KC freighliner a copy of my credit report that I pulled, and what I had in available cash, and credit, and they said I was good, but they wanted a larger down payment... I want to keep the extra cash in the bank for backup...

Lone Mountain's down payment and monthly pmts worked better for what I wanted to do... Time will tell if my plan will pan out over the long run
