first off I don't smoke, and I did say my experience with hay, thus my price to haul hay. The last time I loaded hay, over 3 years ago it took over 6 hours to load and where it unloaded they wanted to pull me through the field with a tractor. Never loaded hay and get out in under 3 hours, and it always got trapped, so if I haul hay it will have to pay very good. I am sure you will get it moved and probably at the price point you stated. Just not on my truck. Plenty of people trying to keep moving by hauling cheap loads or dare I say trying to get home with a back haul.
So tell us more about the cast iron parts, big pieces, small pieces, light or heavy? Several people have been asking and until now you haven't said, then hay shows up on your other thread. What are we supposed to think your load is?
you will learn with your own truck it is a lot more than sitting up in the AC havin a smoke while everyone else works their as of.......trust me you will see.......the driving is the easy part. All the stuff that happens before or after the drive is what will make or brake you in this business.
Load boards for individuals? Uship is now a joke...

The parts I am moving will weigh over 40K. I am working with the mfg for better component specifications. A few pieces, all craned or forked. Tarped load. I am still working on the load. I don't consider it difficult but it will take more than 5min to load/unload, I am certain of that.
Again, keep in mind, I "will move this load" and just asking on numbers. my estimated figures does not mean I cannot negotiate. However, lets assume a load takes an hour to load/unload, I kick you another hundred for that. Is $50/hr not acceptable to sit on your ###? I mean, I keep hearing it takes too long, I have to do this and that. Should a little el manuale labor cost another grand? Hell, if I was there, I would take the 15min to tarp it myself so no one gets hurt... -
Are you saying you want several different pieces loaded, chained or straped, and then tarped, all for $1.60 per mile, taking who knows how long to complete loading and securing, while at the other end everything will have to be undone? You are living in fairy land unless some mega will touch it.
AND, you still haven't said where the loads start and where they end.
Would YOU do it for that? Just wait until you get your own truck, hire a driver, and see how much you lose at those rates. You will quickly sell your truck. -
Uh, we have riggers. As far as price, again, that is negotiable. How is securing a few pieces of steel much different than a bunch of pallets?
I don;t plan to hire a driver. I am the driver. What rate will I charge? who knows. -
My bare bones minimum to haul any load is $2 per mile. BUT there are a lot of other factors that go into that. For example how many miles and what is coming out of the area it is going too, or is it a dead area. If I can't get that on a so called back haul I will dead head home. What a lot of people fail to realize is that you can come from St. Louis to Houston for $1800 or you can dead head to Arkansas and go from there to Houston $1800 - $2500. I generally allow 2 hours on each end for loading and unloading and charge $40 bucks for tarping which is low but I only carry 4 foot drop steel tarps. And I do my own tarping. And will be supervising the loading and unloading so as to be sure that when they are finished it can be safely secured and no damage was done to my equipment or the load that I could be blamed for on the other end. Any monkey can set it on a trailer.......you can bet you ### that I will not be in the AC having a smoke when my wagon is being loaded!!

If you would just tell where from and where to, and what kind of securing and tarping, you would make a much better presentation. Those things are more important than anything else. Some loads could be secured and tarped in less than an hour, others several hours with all kinds of padding to save tarps, and four foot tarps and eight foot tarps make a very big difference. Plus, one tarp for all or several different tarps. You seem to want to play a game of guess the freight, but give me a reasonable rate. It can't happen unless you give the whole story.
I'm not trying to be rude, but you are hiding a lot of information, which makes people think the worse of you. Tell it all and face the facts. You may be right on, or you may not as far as rate, but you will never know unless you come clean. -
