Can someone tell me a little more about this,as in why and is there ANY way around it and be able to get hired? to clarify my question : the small fleet is an O/O owned so the process would be me driving his truck,as the other drivers onboard are all O/O,any help in this subject is greatly appreciated.
It's all about dollars and cents. The more stringent the hiring standards are in regards to experience and safety record, the cheaper the insurance premiums. For example, my general liability insurance policy requires 5 years experience with no more than 1 accident and 1 ticket in the last five years. That is pretty strict standards nowadays but my insurance costs are much lower with this policy. Truth be known, even if my insurance didn't require it, I would.

It's all about the risk involved and as He said dollars and cents. An inexperienced driver has a bigger chance of making a mistake that causes a claim than an experienced one. By having 2 yrs experience they figure you have been through all four seasons of weather and to a multiple of places relatively unscathed.
There are policies that cover drivers with less experience but the premiums are higher. Some companies can opt to let the driver pay the difference if they really want the driver but in my eyes that's not the company to work for. I would say there is no way around it other than to possibly be tested by a third party that everyone agrees on and using that parties decision to determine if you can be covered. I've never heard of it happening other than to a student driver but I don't know everything.

On health insurance. Watch for the open enrollment if you want BC/BS they have those several times a year. Just so you know this getting on a group plan is NOT always the cheapest. Group prices are based on the number of claims that the entire group had and that is what determines the rate. In some instances you can get the same coverage for a lot less money and take the coverage with you where ever you go.

I was covered under the cities group policy and it was twice what we had to pay when I decided that we needed to get our own policy so ask for prices before you sign up for the company policy.
Example
City Policy: Husband and I was $887.98 per month
Our Policy: Husband and I is $398.00 same coverage

1st Guard Truck Insurance?

Anyone using them for their Physical Damage? They only want $136 a month while Landstar wants $216. Only difference is Landstar offers no deductible glass replacement.

How many different types of insurance policies are you required to carry under Landstar's operating authority?

Well the only one I had to get was Physical Damage. I think they provide everything else....for a small fee of course. Technically, I could have went with Landstar's PD, but it was too costly.

The best Insurance Companies

I've been reading your responses and have a question. We're starting our third year and its time for renewal. We've had Canal, never had the chance to put them to the test (Thankful). But they are about $1,000 more then the quotes for Great West and Northland. All seem to offer about the same coverages. I've asked questions and compared policies side be side... and now its crunch time and I'm afraid of making a bad decision. Its between Greast West and Northland both include Gen Liab, Pip all the things I consider important and affordable. Great West agent is local, Northland not. Any suggestions from the experienced ones?
Thanks
