Hello Owners. I am working on joining an elite club here and me and a friend are working on buying out own truck. Found a truck and have a couple company's that want to hire us to team drive and put the truck to work. My question is we have to get tags for the truck and we can tag it in either NC or MO. My question is which state would be better and cheaper to tag it in?

Whichever State your company will be based out of is where it should be registered out of. If you're going to run team OTR you'll need IRP Plates. I don't think today there's much of a difference but to make sure you could ask each State to send you an IRP packet and compare them.

I don't know about MO but if you register in NC you'll also have to pay personal property tax on it each year at whatever value they tell you it is taxed at. My Ftl Century was ten years old and they kept taxing me at $59,000 and I lost every appeal. No longer plated in NC.

Thank you for the info. I appreciate the help. Looks like both NC and MO have the personal property tax.

It's all about what the truck will be doing and how you run your business with making money. What is MP work maybe I am just tired but not sure what u mean by that?

Seeing that about NC, I'm glad I'm in Ohio. No sales tax, no property tax, etc. Any repairs are untaxed for Motor Carriers, etc. Bought a $57,000 trailer, and didn't pay one cent to the state for it (they get their money from income tax).
