Am looking to buy a truck but its got a fixed fifth wheel meaning its not adjustable. The company am buying it from says they pull fully loaded reefers from the midwest to cali and never had weight issues. Can i get by with a fixed fifth wheel pulling dry van no reefers with no weight issues because dry van weighs less than a reefer.

should be fine. normaly once you get a 5th wheel in the right spot there's not really any reason to ever move it. just so long as your right about 12k on the steers with 36k on the drives your good to go. my 5th wheel is basically a fixed 5th wheel now because it hasn't been moved in so many years...lol

He means find a heavy loaded van trailer, scale the load, make sure you're legal on both steers and drives.

I wouldn't trust without verifying. Too many trucks running around over 12k on the steers when loaded just because its legal in most states. It may be legal but it doesn't do your tires and steering gear any good.

    damutt Thanks this.

Not that expensive to change from fixed to sliding. You will probably need one sooner or later.
