Im from California, Ive been pulling containers out of the Port of Oakland for 2 years. After a couple of hard years of Saving And Sacrificing, im ready to purchase my on Rig and leave California for good. Houston is the destination of choice. The problem is, Im having a hard time locating companies or brokers who handle freight out of the ports in Texas. I would really appreciate if someone with knowledge of companies that pull out of the ports could Help or recommend companies to get with for work... Thanks....

Have you tried Hub Group; it's nationwide.

if you go to Houston craiglist , theres a bunch of companies always hiring around these ports, you can call them and get some info. Ive spoken to a few guys and they have to pay for the flats and blowouts on steamship line chassis, that's a bum deal to me.
    Good luck

You'll definitely want to check rates before making the jump. What you're used to in Cali may be a lot more than you'll get pulling cans out of a southern port. Down here in FL it's around a $1 plus fuel surcharge, which is hardly livable unless you live with 15 of your closest family, or in your truck.

You may check Gulf Winds out. They do a ton of local and you have the option to run some overnight trips. They have a very large warehouse directly across the street from Barbours Cut. Other than that there are about a million or so container hauling companies in Houston. From my understanding the rates are pretty cheap.

Don't waste your time, just say no to cheap freight. Buy a flatbed and you'll always be busy around Houston.

I tried containers when I barely moved down here, did that for all of 2 weeks when I decided to buy my flat instead.

I use Internet Truckstop load board. I don't really have a distance, rates dictate where , how far and when ill go. Fort the most part, I try to leave Mon and be back Thurs-Fri
