I need to fill up before heading out to pick up a load on Monday. I noticed the price of diesel at the local Maverick station is considerably less than any of the truck stops in my area. Is there any reason why I can't or shouldn't fill up there?

CK. for hight of fuel bay before driving under to fuel up, some places dont get fuel del. as often as big T/stops so ck. for water in tank, all is good if it saves you $ sometimes you can drive a few mi. down hiway from big stops and save 20cents per gal.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, & also, my local Maverick doesn't charge a higher price for using a credit card. Plus, I can use my Maverick discount card to get 2 cents off each gal. And if I use this 1 particular card in my wallet thru Sept, I get 5% cash back on my gas purchases up to $1500 worth of purchases. And I have other cards that will give me 3%, no limit. How do you check for water in the fuel? Put some in a glass jar & look at it?

I think there's enough of these big pick-up trucks with diesel engines around here that the Maverick stations would get filled up often enough, like most metro areas out west. Maybe NY city would be different.

Be careful of the use of credit cards and fueling. See a lot of places put purchase limits on the card, some as low as $100 so not to have a charge back issue. Filling up a rig with some not so bright person behind the counter to lift that limit may end up being a nightmare. PLUS if you think that you can make multiple purchases, the credit card company may lock it until you call them and tell them who you are. It just happened to me, I fueled up the pickup and then got some gas for the lawnmower, the credit card company locked the card immediately after the second purchase.

Well, there's a Maverick here where I live in an industrial area of town. They actually have an area for the normal sized cars & pick-ups, & also an area for large RVs & big semi type rigs. I checked with them, the prices at both areas is the same, & I can use my Maverick Rewards Card which gives me another 2 cents off per gal. I really don't think the taxes we all pay at the pump is different for truckers, just my humble opinion.

I'm just getting into the trucking business, but seems to me, with the little I know, the supposedly discount fuel cards most of us all use, like the Fleet One card I got with my NASTC membership, isn't what its cracked up to be. T/A, one of the truck stops where I live, has a cash price, & a credit card price, which is 7 cents more per gal than the cash price. Now if I used my fuel card, the cost to me is supposedly $3.65, the advertised price online is $3.86. If I go to the Maverik, their price is $3.66, $3.64 with my rewards card. Now if I use my 5% cash back credit card, I'm only paying $3.458. There's the average 20 cent discount & saving NASTC told me I'd get, only I'm not getting it from them or their card. Now this particular credit card has some limitations. I only get the 5% 2 quarters a year, & only up to $1500 in gas purchases. I'm looking for other cards similar to this one that I can use when that card isn't giving me the 5% off. But I do have other cards that give me 3% cash back all year long with no limit on purchases. And some even give me a 25% bonus at the end of the year on the cash back I've earned. So with today's price of fuel, using my 3% cash back credit card, my cost per gal would be $3.53, still much better than my fuel card.
