Produce is exempt product, not covered by a bond. Don't even need a bond to broker produce. Produce is shipped by the box, regardless of how you are paid. If the freight was 5.00/box or XX/CWT then the freight charge for 50 cases would be -250.00. If you mess with produce, learn and know the rules.
Please help! Need Advise- Broker won't pay says load was "short"

Even if the broker has a bond, the bond company will reject the claim because it is exempt product. The bond only covers regulated product. A carrier doesn't need an MC#, only a DOT# to haul exempt.
double yellow, wore out and diazj Thank this. -

Unfortunately, there was no seal. They did acknowledge the two cases and that's the only things discussed. The apples were just marked by a small - next to the listing. Not highlighted or even mentioned.

I take it everything was import? 50 apples (import) is a pallet 5+ feet high. Hard to miss that. Full size boxes is a pallet just shy of the ceiling + 8 boxes.
