Ricardo, I'm investing back into my business and not showing much taxable income the last year and plan to live that way the next few. I know there's probably some people who this offends their ideology or politics but I will be getting healthcare dirt cheap or free for several years. And yes, that period of time will end and then I will be paying substantially. But I don't deal in idealogy or politics. I deal in what is on the table and right now Obamacare is helping me grow my business and giving me incentive to do so.

I HAD a good policy from BC/BS that I got through the NRA Endorsed Insurance Program. I gave it up this year and chose to self-insure because the taxes and fees that were imposed on my policy under the unaffordable care act made it cost twice as much as I felt it was worth. I find it highly offensive and morally repugnant that the government is telling me that I must dig deeper into MY pockets, make cuts in MY budget, and do without some things that I'd like to have just so that others who don't work as hard as I do can get their precious "insurance" without having to make the SAME sacrifices that I am being told I must make. I actually had an insurance policy...there to protect my assets in the event of an unplanned, unanticipated, catastrophic injury or illness. Those plans are no longer allowed, and I refuse to participate in a medical expense cost sharing plan which is what the un-ACA requires. Sorry, but insurance should not cover regular day-to-day expenses...nor should it cover "pre-existing conditions". You wouldn't expect a car insurance company to sell you a collision policy today that would cover the car that you wrapped around a tree last night on your way home from the bar, would you? You'd be laughed out of the agent's office if you tried buying a home owners policy on your house to cover the "pre-existing condition" that the fire department was in the process of extinguishing. Why, then, should a health insurance company be required to cover an illness that you didn't bother paying for a policy until AFTER the condition developed? There is a term for that sort of behavior: INSURANCE FRAUD! But, it is mandatory under this ridiculous law that had to be passed so that we could see what was in it.

As for you expecting to get subsidies to pay for your policy, you are part of the problem in this country. Too many people expect somebody else to pay their way through life and continue voting for politicians who use other people's money to pay for it. We're +$17 TRILLION in debt. People really need to get off their butts, work hard, and pay their own way through life.

meh, fair enough. It's not like we don't hear this version of reality everyday on talk radio. Fact of the matter is I work plenty hard, have paid more taxes than this person probably makes in a year several times. And I'm at a point where I can invest money back in my business and save on healthcare as a bonus. I'm a part of the problem ? no sir, people who try to simplify and paint things in black and white are part of the problem. I'm part of the solution. I've already paid more taxes than you, I may get a break for a few years if I invest profit back into my business and after that I will again pay more than you. In fact, you are living off of my taxes, not vice versa ! So take your kool-aid elsewhere or drink it yourself.

Alright, we are NOT going to start a political debate on health care here, that is what the political forum is for, we have moved several threads on this already from here to there. Nuff said?

I priced a policy on the Health Exchange and it is about $600 a month for myself and my wife. She is a smoker so that bumps it up a bit. The carrier is Blue Cross and the coverage was about the same as the current one through my employer.

No dental coverage though. For Dental I have already signed up with the Humana HMO plan (h1215). With that plan we pay $28 per month and get a big discount. Here is a pricelist for that

    https://www.givemeinsurance.com/insurance/humanadoc/Dental Prepaid HI215 Plan TX.pdf

I am in the process if going independent and this is based on qualifying for a tax credit. Our MAGI (modified adjusted gross income) has to be less that 61K to qualify but that is Gross Income after health insurance cost and retirement plan contributions. If it looks like we are headed over 61K then we will simply put more in the retirement plan.

I had a BCBS policy I was happy with, it got cancelled do to the health care act. The policy I bought thru the exchange is about twice what I was paying, for close to the same coverage. I am getting a subsidy so I am paying slightly less than I was. Next year I lose quite a bit of depreciation, so my price will go up.

This reply is not political, Just saying how I deal with health insurance.

Comparing a pre- existing condition between a car and a human is not fair......what if I've had health ins since the day I was born. Should the new company have to cover my pre- existing condition ....?

And I lost my Bc because of the new laws..... I was paying $1200 a month for a single plan. And yes it was a top shelf plan. Had to change companies, now a almost top shelf plan costs me $1000 a month.

Don't worry it's all "built into the rate" as they say......
