After talking to some drivers over the weekend it seems many have different reasons for becoming a owner operator, when I told them my reasons they just looked at me crazy so what's your number one reason?

Im business minded and i like the small details Id rather control all that and have the pride of saying this is mine rather than just going where a dispatcher says go

Pride. To see if I could do it. Being able to make my own decisions and have more say in where, what and when I do it.

My reason in the beginning was I was being run around the clock and my employer could care less about me a his employee.
I also wanted to make more money.
It worked great, a few bumps getting started but I more than tripled what I could earn as a company driver,,plus I got to choose where I went, what I hauled and never had to take any crap from some moron,,
To be an owner operator leased to a company or with your own authority you must be driven,,ambitious and be very business minded.

To drive a nice truck and do what I want when I want and only have to answer to the customer, the lawman and the IRS.

Because I didn't know any better. I was raised by and around self made men. I thought that is what we did, work hard to provide the best for our loved ones. Treat the truck like family cause she works hard for them. Besides no company I know has trucks like mine
