If you subscribe to a good load board, don't they have some sort of "avg lane rate" section in there that you can look at? Even DAT gives out a couple of numbers every week, for free!

I'm home daily, loads going to the house every night. 4 miles out of route. Doesn't get much better. Containers pay both ways and street turns are amazing.

I don't pay any attention to that. Only once in a while freight is posted when a broker doesn't have any of his regular carriers available to haul a load. You'd be surprised how many customers are willing to pay a premium on the regular for top notch service. The best loads out there rarely get posted.

So your averaging $2/mi to the truck all miles home every night but the real question is how many miles a week do you get?

I drove 1728 miles and booked 3448 in 5 days, so that's 1.39 a mile after fuel and 2411. That's a good week for me. I mostly profit 1800 on ~ 1000 miles. I don't care to work that hard and I'm off weekends. A lot of people around here would take my gig in a heartbeat.

oh and 663 miles was a load that was 1.6 a mile. Weighed 9300lbs and back empty.

I did 3 this week, but the street turn didn't pay amazing but 1.4 a mile for a 2,000lb load 85 miles out and 135 back was worth it. The heavy load I brought out 58 miles woulda paid 2.32 a mile round trip so it evened out. 549 for 278 miles is 1.97 per mile. Street turns are amazing.

What is a "street turn" ?

Pool6710, does your fuel cost vary all that much when loaded heavy or loaded light? Mine only changes by a few cents per mile ...

it doesn't matter if I'm heavy or not. It's hilly around here and I cruise at 65. Having a mid roof doesn't help either. I get 6mpg no matter what I haul, 8k or 44k in a Tri axel. Street turn is delivering a import container load and reusing it on an outbound booking for a different load and getting paid full rounds for both from the rail.
