You are very right on that. But for the years he's intending to buy 3.73 are rare and 3.90 unheard of. A 13 speed jammer would give you the flexibility needed to pull hills on the engine's sweet spot without cutting you self short on speed. Fuel wise?, well most of the magic happens on the right pedal, we can all agree to that. Know everything about your truck and drive it accordingly for no two trucks are the same.

I like your idea on the kenworth , I would say since u r not sure what all type trlrs and freight you may eventually pull try to find what you consider versatile , and my self Cummins preferably in the 500hp range , you don't have to use it just cause its there but you cannot use it if it ain't there , first followed only by Detroit , that's it and 13 speed or better yet 18 if u can find it , I personally do not like the tens unless flat ground light loaded day cab types , just my.02

Thank you all! Deffently a huge help! I'm just trying to knowledge myself best I can before doing this, I'm hoping either by end of winter/spring to be in something. What are y'all's take on volvo? I was never a big fan myself but after thinkin a little the one I'm in is a 670 d13 it pulls pretty good and it's a auto (only turn off to this truck) it does do a very good job and is very comfortable ride, I was looking at a 730, or 780 and I besides the engine being difficult to find a place that will work on them, I heard the engines are dependable and that's what I'm going for. I am a fan of the cummins my dad has a 2011 frieghtshaker DD15 and he hasn't had too many issues at all, only one I can think of but it was a VERY costly repair.

Gliders are the big thing here now. I know several that got em spec with no emission 60 series Detroit 515 hp I think. They have newer Cats in the fleet with deleted EGR and they have been trouble almost from the start. I am not a Detroit fan myself. Admittedly the fuel milage has won me over to some extent. The trucks have preformed almost flawlessly racking up 500 miles a day seven days a week. The engines had a complete overhaul and were 100 percent gauranteed. The trucks were a turnkey package . Its pretty sweet having that dependable engine in a brand new truck. Also have a low milage W900 with a N14 and a 9 speed. Rides and drives out like new. Problem is that there are places we cant deliver with it now because of emissions. The gliders always run on a dedicated route where emissions arent an issue. Lots of things to consider when making a decision like your contemplating. Im just an ol school kinda guy.
