    Hey everyone,

For a while now I've had an entrepreneurial mind set. My life goal as far as making money goes is to own my own business. I've had countless ideas which after more research, turned out to be a bad idea. I'm still in the research phase and so far, dump truckin' is looking good. I'm starting a part time dump truck gig here pretty soon and have had numerous dump truck companies tell me to call them when I get a rig. I'm also researching hauling grain as I see lots of grain haulers in my area and we have a bunch of farms here in shreveport, la. I've also seen quite a few feed stores as well. How do I get information on the grain industry? How far do they usually haul as I want to start a business that gets me home every night? Is there any money in grain hauling? Maybe I could haul grain in season and coal in the off season as I'm pretty sure there's a coal mine nearby, but again not sure how to get into that either. What other types of business would get me home at night? I've also considered getting a pulpwood truck as I see many of them as well. Thanks in advance.

Yea I just now saw that thanks for the link. Just didn't know if it is more of a long haul business or if you can do it locally. Wish I could find a way to get into contact with the farmer in my area.

Phone book, or just stop in and talk. Personal contact works better for drumming up business. If you won't take the time to talk and pitch your service, why would the potential customer think you would take the time with his product and provide a better service than he already has.

Never hauled grain, but I would think that the way the railroads have been leaving the farmers high and dry with no intention of fixing the issue, it would create a major demand for hoppers.
