Crackin'.....bear in mind some 9 speeds are convertible to 13s......some fleets do that because a 13 will theoretically bring more resale.

Don't be afraid of a well taken care of truck with a '03-'07 Detroit EGR engine. Very easy and inexpensive to delete that and use the older style turbo. MUCH more power and mpgs. Myself and many I know have done it. There are some great buys in that range of model years.

There isnt dent a ten around that can be converted but there's lots of convertible nine speeds.SMTatham and crackinwise Thank this. -

Never heard such a thing but I suppose it could happen. I only deal with people I've known for a long time when it comes to working on my truck. -
I've heard that dealerships are required to put the latest low nox software updates into the ecm, but I don't know why you'd want to take a 15 year old truck to the dealer...

My fear with altering emissions on a newer truck would be going for a routine repair somewhere out on the road and they will not release the truck without the emisions being brought back to normal. That could be thousands of dollars.
Anyway I went on a quick run to Orlando this morning but didnt really see much I liked. I only was able to get to two places and look at inventory. Its definitly easier to browse Truck Paper or Commercial Truck Trader to find potentials then go look at that truck. Just going out to lots to try to find something, logistically, is too difficult. The issue Im having is most trucks for sale in the papers are at least 90 mins to two hours away. So when I find something that looks good then go make the drive to go look at it in person and find it to be nothing like what I saw in the ad it becomes a lot of wasted time. I can see how people can get drustrated and just settle for something just to end the search but Im determined to find a truck that meets the requirements I have set but I do also have some areas that Im willing to bend on. With my current driving job coming to a close next week should bring more free time to search for a truck. -
One of my bigger mistakes when planning was thinking that what I saw on truck paper was representative of what was actually out there. At least half of the trucks I was interested in had been sold (and some still remained listed for months). Almost all were rougher than their pictures. After 2 months of searching within a 1000-mile radius, I wound up flying out and buying a truck 1800 miles away -- and I still settled.
crackinwise Thanks this.
