Fuel Card Discount Program for Owner Ops?

I'm not sure you will find similar savings. But I got a landstar card. I take a few loads here and there for landstar so I can keep there card. That's how they pay me and when I use it for fuel there is a big discount off pump price. It is a comdata card. Maybe you can get it from different companies. I also have a B2B account that I get a 6 cent discount at pilot/j.

 

As an O/O, I've been sent every offer out there at some point or another, and the short answer is no, or at least not that I know of. Not to say someone else may not have run across such a thing, but most of the "discount" cards require you to be purchasing a huge amount of fuel for many, many trucks in a given time range before the big discounts apply. I often get the "cash" discounts at most of the fuel depots I go to, just make sure to keep and file the receipts so you so can use them for your taxes. Aside from the cash discounts, there are a multitude of advantages to being an O/O that you can take advantage of, like using a card that gives rebates, or a card that accumulates sky miles if you like to fly on occasion. As an O/O, we go through more money than most people see a year just in fuel and insurance costs, not to mention tires/maintenance, etc..... Clark Howard has a posted a list of suggestions that can give you back some of what you spend. I will keep checking back to see if anyone else knows of anything, as I myself have asked this question before.

 

NASTC is the best that I know of. A search on this topic will produce endless amounts of info.

There are brokers, carriers and factors that offer a fuel card that you can use which have some discounts for those whom they do business.

 

Get the Landstar card! You get the same discounts we who are leased on with Landstar get. Price plus .4 cents at T/A petro and .20 cents at both pilot/flying J and Loves.

To use the LandStar Fuel card you have to be an approved Carrier to haul for LandStar. It is because they pay you for all loads through the card within 3 days. I would suggest that anyone running their own Authority sign up to haul for LandStar. They pay well and they have a lot of routes. You won't make as good money as if you were leased to them, but you will make better than working for a cut-rate broker like TQL, SPX, or C.H. Robinson. Here is a link:

I have the landstar LCAPP card but I cant find the link on there sight where it lists the fuel discounts by truckstop. Suppose to be under the trip planning tab? Landstar is good to haul for but one thing I did find with them is that you need to verify every bit of paperwork or online forms you fill out with these programs and get the name of the person that received it. They have a tendancy to not process things for some reason. The manual direct deposit paperwork enabling you to move your money by phone from your landstar card to banking account takes 3 weeks to process after you fill it out. I did mine back in the beginning of August ony to find out 3 days ago no one received it.
