Any truth to these Power Harness adapters?

I have a C15 Acert in my 05 Columbia. Despite being registered as an 05, there is no EGR and no DPF. Truck is an 04 and motor is listed an 03. Supposed to be first year for the ACERT. Its a 435hp ACERT C15.

I'm not the smartest guy in the world when it comes to diesels. But I know my way around Ford and Chevy small blocks. I'm mechanically adapt. First car was a 396 Chevelle back in 1984. Before I swapped in an HEI, I could rebuild a points ignition with my eyes closed. I used to steal my GF's emery boards all the time. Only old timers will understand why we needed emery boards.

Anyway,.. how can adding fuel help with fuel mileage? I can see how adding some more boost, tricking the wastegate and adding timing to increase HP. But in my mind,.. that would be at the cost of using more fuel. No?

I've finally managed to get this truck to stay above 5.5 mpg, with several tanks in the 6.0-6.2 mpg is not uncommon anymore.

Diesel Freaks is claiming .5 - 1 MPG increase for their harness. If true then I should see no less than 6 mpg, with potential 7 mpg tanks. For $200, I'd buy that with out hesitation.
So I ask you guys,.. Myth? BS? Truth? What say ye?

Don't know but the guys at Pittsburgh power have a good handle on this and could and will answer your questions. They can help you get the mileage up. Worth a phone call anyway.

Emery boards work good for filing the points when they are burnt. The dwell on that ignition was 29 to 31 degrees. I never liked my timing at factory suggestion.

For the the question at hand. The harness is worth the 200 but won't produce the gains advertised.

Pittsburgh Power sells pretty much the same thing, with pretty much the same claims. I'm looking for real world answers from someone who actually bought them, installed them and can answer the #1 question here,.. does it so what they claim?

I can call Diesel Freaks and get the same answer that Pittsburgh Power will give me. I already looked at their website a couple days ago. I dont want to talk to anyone trying to sell me something. Rather get a heads up from a good brother trucker looking out for his kin folk.

I never did either, mine was set at 34 deg adv btdc. I modified the HEI and manually set that one too.

Emeryboard was a crucial tool. I mean a 17 yr old kid with a 375hp 396, 4 spd and 4.11 12 bolt,.. I turned a lot of rpms. Had a manual choke. I used to pull the choke half way out so the carb would go pig rich and make the motor lope when I idled into a cruise spot. My buds would say, dang man,.. your car sounds good. I'd go yup,.. got a 3/4 race cam in there. LOL

What makes it worth $200 if it doesnt do what it claims? Just for the HP gain? If so, will it hurt my fuel economy?

Even though I'm only at 435hp, mine runs good and will still pull up hills with no problem. I can lug all the way down to 1000 RPM and still pull. I dont really care about more hp, fuel is money and my biggest expense. Any little bit I can save and keep in my pocket is more money I can put into my race car at home.

I drove a Coronado with the 12.7 Detoit at 500hp and it felt sluggish, with almost nothing under 1300 rpm. Even leaving from a stop, you had to really tach it out to get it to move. Night and day compared to a CAT. Plus my tired old kitty would out pull that truck on hills like it was standing still. I couldnt wait to get back into my truck,.. even though that was a really sharp looking truck inside and out. Plus I loved the unmuffled jakes. Sounded great coming out of the pipes.

I don't have any experience with the product in question, but I do know to be extremely wary any time anything starts sounding to good to be true. Ask yourself, if it was possible to get a 20% increase in fuel mileage just by plugging in some $200 doohickey, why arnt the manufactures installing these things at the factory?

What I think will help more than anything you can do is have the hard cruise setting turned to soft cruise in the ECM. It won't effect it's power as much as some will claim but does wonders for fuel economy. It has nothing really to do with cruise control btw. The fuel temp wire and the exhaust will help some but not near as advertised.
