Can you actually go to lowes/home depot and buy a generator type thing and put it on your catwalk, and have AC??????? I see some of those out occasionally and wonder if that's what they are used for??

I have a bunk heater, the cold I can deal with, but the heat is something else....

yes, I know a driver who uses one of the honda gen/inverters to run a portable AC and stuff, he is an O/O and its a lot cheaper running that than the truck.

I have a carrier low profile rooftop mounted ac unit on top of my bunk. Freeze you right out in the summer. If the truck didn't already have an apu I would definitely go the Honda generator route. I think they are by far the quietest.

If you don't run your A/C during the day, it isn't so bad at night. I haven't had to idle my truck at all since the temperature got up over 20 degrees in June out in South Dakota.

Also, if you actually read the anti-idle laws in their entirety, some of the states lift their regulation outside of a certain temperature range, and for 10 hour breaks.

yeah some you get away with it as long as your in the SB, even the DC im out of has a 5min idle rule unless specified by law otherwise.
in the past month I have idled maybe 5 days total and im in a warm area, sometimes I shut down just late enough and idle for 2-4 hours during the late morning before beginning if it gets over 80 before starting.

I haven't either. Must not be strict. Lots of southern hospitality still in these parts. Either way, I'd idle if I were still otr. I'm one of those few that is still around with a backbone.
