So today like every day this week, i went truck hunting.
well today i came across a nice 2005 -387 pete, it has 850k miles,475 hp c-15 cat motor, 13 speed.
The asking price is $25k W/O TAXES.

Are they asking to much for this rig?

Sounds about right. I always look for new parts on old motors, shows problems are/have been happening. Drive it around, with some weight in a trailer. No matter what, you're taking a chance, so be smart, look at everything you can. Best.

Who Knows ? Tires, tranny, body condition, sleeper ?, rear ratio, paint, interior, oil anaysis, wheel base, etc. ----- dozens of different items to check.
It may be worth that, maybe more. The scant info you have given is no where close to enough to offer an opinion.

LOL sorry guy about the brief description, im on a stupid phone with limited characters. So the truck was a trade in, the salesman showed me a list of services that had been done prior to being traded in. In all, the guy spent $5K ON REPAIRS.

Cant remember everything listed, but i do remember it having , New clutch, Turbo, and steering work done. I mean it was a long list of repairs. The salesman also said it has its original motor. THE 850K MILES is kind of what im most concerned about. Their selling it "As Is" He told me for an additional $2k he can give me a 1 year/100k miles warranty. With the warranty only covering, Major engine break downs, not the Transmission or rear end.

Get a Rig Dig Report on it and get the ECM report pulled. You might find that there are more miles on the truck then the odometer shows. At the very least if the truck is something you want it will give you some negotiating power to get a better price. And dont froget to drive it and have it looked at by someone you trust will be on your side when it comes to mechnical condition.

Remember 05 is one of those years where all the emissions additions were still pretty new and still were working bugs out . The ECM report will be helpful in determining if there were any crazy things happening. None of this is perfect but it will be a little more then just guessing.

If he spent 5 grand on repairs, THEN traded suddenly............ I would be wary. Like crackin said, find some info. Also, do an oil analysis. Cheap to find out engine shape.

Also if he did 5k in repairs, must've been a bunch of little stuff to make a long list. 5k doesn't go far with big problems.

So the story goes, the owner was leased on to a company, the truck is a 05 which made it Non-Compliant here in Cali.
The salesman said the guy had no chose but to TRADE it IN , or get it fitted with the NEW ######## FILTERS California LAW mandates:angryfire: im going to check out RIG DIG for sure to bad its not free. I was also was able to find a Diesel Mechanic on Craigslist, tomorrow he's going to meet over at the Lot for a Pre Purchase Inspection. Ill let you guys know how it went in the morning.

Again thanks everyone for you spot on informative advice:wave:

An '05 Cat has 2 turbo's you said "new turbo" singular, very rare that just one goes out. If it in fact only has 1 turbo then the emissions have been modified, which besides being illegal will void any warranty no matter what you pay for it or what the sales-person says. Not that I'm trying to scare you off, my '05 Cat (BXS) has 1.3 mil on it and still going strong. But they are finicky, and are a "special needs" engine. Mine averages 6.7 MPG's pulling a smooth bore tank empty about 40%. I'm just sayin'...
