Was hoping someone might be able to throw some rough numbers at me about regular maintenance and repairs like how much things cost and how many miles you can expect out of these items...

I'm currently in a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia with 293500 miles and have had it since 1100.

Other than a few odds and ends covered under warranty, I've replaced all tires, batteries, and regular oil changes.

What else should I be prepared for in the near future and even up to 600k?
    Clutch?
    Brakes?
Inframe? (I once read 500k is a good rule of thumb...?)
    Other things?

Would greatly appreciate any numbers about when or how often and maybe even rough costs...or anything else I'm missing

    Thanks yall

There are so many things that can go wrong. The emmissions componts will cost you the most. As for an inframe at 500 your starting to scare me... if everyone had to do an inframe at 500k half the trucks on the road would not be there. Older engines get a million plus if taken care of. Newer emmission engines if they get a million it may be a miracle

Yeah I know theres a lot of things that can go wrong but I was looking more along the lines of normal maintenance and things that should be replaced every so often for general upkeep...glad to hear 500k isnt much or a baseline to go by tho...im sure ill sell the truck or trade it in on a new one by 750 at the most

Best advice I can give you is to try and find components that are wearing before they break. Hoses belts wiring. Change your differential fluid at 250k trans at 500k. Other than that just take care of your equipment. I wouldn't just replace a part if it is not gaing bad. Otherwise I would have changed my wife every month because she seems to act up around then. Lol

Haha the old lady laughed at that last part but I do appreciate the tips. If I remember correctly, the service manual suggests diffs @500k but dont recall what it says about the trans. Having grown up with little I tend to appreciate and take care of what I do have but theres always room for improvement. ..just trying to get some ideas of what will be next on the list as this is my first truck. Thanks again for the help

Run oil samples every so often. Every situation is different, and oil is cheap. OTR clutches should last more than 500,000. Brakes probabaly not.Inframe around 800,000 is my guess. Oil sampling will help there.. Turbo may be needed around 500,000, as batteries, alternator, starter also. Shocks, front end alignment, and emissions crap will be needed by then.

Somewhere between 400k - 800k is where all the fun things happen. Turbo, clutch, EGR, DPF filter, wires corroding, gaskets leaking, hoses rupture.

Laugh if you guys want to, but I felt a truck over 800k was golden because most everything that could go wrong already had been replaced. I couldnt afford a truck with under 200k so thats the route I took.

I'm just shy of 1.2 million on mine. Other than an ECM and some wiring issues, I'm still going strong. I know I'm on a ticking time bomb,.. but I treat her right and hope for the best. About all we can do I think.

I can actually see where you're coming from buying a truck over 800 there hurst...I've already had a def clog, map sensor and I believe the egr replaced under warranty so hopefullly they'll hang in there a while

Not sure what harm this could or wouldnt cause to a semi, but my buddy bought an 08 or 09 Dodge 3500 with the Cummins. Loves that truck. It refused to start once because the DEF fluid was too low. Jokingly I said poor some water into it. That cat pee is supposed to be 80% water anyway. I dont really know the percentage,.. I was just trying to yank his chain a bit because he cant start his truck because he's out of muffler fluid. I found it extremely funny at the time. He was so frustrated that he took the garden hose and filled the DEF tank with it. Truck started and ran fine. He's got something like 160k on that truck now and he's been using hard nasty florida tap water ever since.

So I find it amusing when I see how expensive DEF is. A lot of guys here in Florida just remove the whole system.
