I'm getting my own authority and want to rent a 53 ft Dry Van. I'm in southeast Virginia (Norfolk area) and looking to get a trailer without a lot of requirements. I will consider buying but want to try renting first, and not getting locked into a long commitment.

I looked into renting a reefer from Xtra... Holy cat nip! $1,200 a month base, reefer at $1.40 per hour and $0.06 per mile. I'll just buy used, thanks.
-
doc, did that include the fuel for the reefer?
-
No, I am responsible for fuel. There was also a "service clause" that stated if the trailer is not brought in for service within 24 hours of notification, there is a service charge.

Anyone else? I have searched the web, checked out truck paper and commercial trader and have found very little info. The companies i have called want to deal with bigger carriers or want you to have established business over 3 years. I'm asking all the local guys I know and was hoping to get some input from anyplace at this point. If anyone knows a place to get a 53 dry van without jumping through to many hoops please post...thanx

You can try Transport Enterprise Leasing .com, although I do not know of their requirements. Did you try calling all trailer dealers in your area? Trailers maintain their value for the most part, a good used van a few years old is almost as much as a new one.
POINTDEXTER Thanks this. -
Have you tried smaller trucking co in the area. Guy I'm leased to rents trls

AC&T (www.acandt.com) Hagerstown, MD (I-81 exit 5) ph: (301) 797-4923 press option 6 for storage trailers (if menu is still the same and although the menu/dept. is for storage trailers they also have road trailers). Best rates on dry van rental I've ever found. No mileage fee; instead, you pay for maintenance that comes up. When I looked at what I was saving on just the monthly rental fee I was ahead even if I paid for a tire blow out. Most places charge more per month plus a per mile fee. Their trailers are a little older though and some may need a little work here and there. But it costs way less than some rental places.
POINTDEXTER Thanks this.
