yes you got it... obviously something to runs and can pass a DOT inspection.
Even if you pay say $15,000 and it holds up for a year with nothing major I think you're ahead of the game.
Good place to lease onto with a POS truck?

I mean you can get an old Pumpkin for $20K. You can lease on to the Landstar, Mercer, & Schneider's of the world as long as the truck passes inspection. Also most companies want you to have a electronic motor for the E-Log hook up

There is no reason an older, well maintained truck should not last for several years without having a major expense. An older truck is not necessarily a pos. I have gotten a good deal on a truck from someone who was retiring and just wanted to get rid of the truck. If you have the cash, you might even find a good deal at one of the equipment auctions. The guy who often works on my trucks seems to always have older trucks that he sells for about $10,000. He goes over them and fixes anything that doesn't work. I would not hesitate to buy one of those trucks from him were I in the market. I would not consider any of them to be a pos. They are just older trucks.
I would suggest going with one of the owner operator carriers who pays percentage. Some have been mentioned. You might also check with Universal AmCan or Mason Dixon. Another would be Bennett. It depends on what you want to pull and where you want to run. Check the company listings on this forum and some of the other trucking forums for minimum requirements.exhausted379, Cetane+ and lcfd15 Thank this. -

Unless they have changed, Landstar will let you run an older truck as long as it will pass a Landstar inspection.

Not sure what they pay,. but doubt very much judging by the quality of trucks hauling them.

Just kidding. True it wont win any shows, but mine earns as much as that show truck and mine is paid for. I'd be afraid to run a beauty queen some of the places I go. I'd probably go insane just from the bugs smearing all over the truck.
My wife wont take her Mustang out during Luv Bug season. She takes my pick up and lets the bugs bake in so when I get home I have to spend 2 hours pressure washing them off.

reminds me of my truck when I was running loads through Oregon last year, think it was near Klamath lake or something like that but my truck looked far worse than your pickup. Had to pull over a couple times to clean my windshield since I could not see at all.
My opinion as long as you can find a truck that runs well and wont end up costing you a lot of money in repairs and you still come out well ahead a company drivers pay then go for it. Like some said you can find some decent deals out there, not long ago the guy I trained with said he was going to sell his truck for $7500 just to get rid of it and he took well care of it and sometimes I kick myself for not going for it, it wont be allowed in CA after next year? but heck I could of made some decent money off the truck for the time I could.blacklabel Thanks this.
