It does not matter what you will do. No sleeper requires a motel/hotel if they do not get home for the 10 hour break. As far as fuel and toll there your problem, not the driver part of your overhead to add in before you quote the load.

What you should pay depends on what the poad is, istance, loading/unoading... etc.... 40 cpm range.

Its kind of a grey area. We dont have to go into weigh stations. A state police officer told me that Im "under the radar", bc we are towing combined weight of less than 10,000 lbs, but , I have received a random dot road test, driving a cargo van with an empty car hauler trailer, so its best to keep a log book to avoid the potential problems. On a technicality, some officers interpret the rule as any vehicle towing outside of a 100 mile radius of your home base for commericial purposes, needs to have a log book. We are just a lot less likely to be checked out.

CDL or not, if they charge money to haul it , it is now a commercial load and under DOT jurisdiction. Just because they are pulling it with a pickup changes nothing, it is still subject to all, including chicken houses.

It has nothing to do with weight, if you get caught in CAL going around a scale on a for-hire load you will get ticketed. Your drivers are actually required to have Class C commercial license, eventually it will catch up with you just a matter of time.

The norm for a van is 60% of they pay gas, 40% if they don't. If they pay gas, then they get 100% FSC. IF you don't get FSC, then you pick up the tab on gas.

BUT because it is hard to find people who want to live in a van, you may want to go to 50% for them if they don't pick up the gas and 60% if they do.

The tolls and everything else related to the van and its operation is on you. To expect to split tolls is being cheap.
