10-4 on purge valve. If it's stuck open you wont build air pressure. If it is open, you can close it with a pliers. Check that first before replacing other part.

I had this same exact problem and it was leaking out the purge valve. Easy to check. Build up truck air to max then kill engine. Cover the purge with your hand for a minute. Then pull it off you will hear the air escaping. There should not be any air escaping.

Replaced air governor. Didn't seem to help too much. I'll try a cold start in the A.M, but I did notice some OIL on the outside of my air compressor. It is almost 700k miles old, might be time for a replace.

? Will check purge valve in the A.M. Thanks

If you have oil leaking from the compressor, you may only have a gasket that need to be replaced. That is a simple fix. I would check all bolts and hoses to make sure they are tight, first.

With that kind off mileage i wouldn't waiste my time and money and replace the whole compressor.
Don't forget that if it just a few dropps off oil gets into your airsystem, they will do damage to all your valves.

I once had to rebuild an air compressor on the side of the road. That was interesting.

Thanks y'all for your help. I was hoping to have a victory story of doing something myself on this one: BUT: the air governor didn't seem to be the problem ( I had to put the old one on just to get to the shop ), my purge valve wasn't stuck open. So I decided to "bite the bullet" and replace the air compressor and put a new dryer on. $2500 dollars later I'm building air like a champ. I notice the truck actually running smoother for not having to compensate for the probably weak air compressor. Thanks again, I never try to "pull anyone's chain" on here, I learn from everyone I can out here and help others as well when the time calls for it. So thanks again y'all!
