Currently I do deliveries in Utah with a one ton pickup and trailer. Its now time to move to a larger used day cab truck. Understanding that California has new CARB laws I was thinking that I could pick a pre 2010 truck at a good price. My deliveries are in Utah and Nevada. I will not be going to California.
I could sure use some help choosing a truck! I need a very maneuverable short wheel base, day cab truck. My trailer is about 35 feet long and with a load weights a maximum of 26,000 pounds. Truck would be pulling both in the city and the interstate. Not sure what HP/torque requirements, transmission, and differential.
Your help would be appreciated. I have been working on this for about 6 months.

this question will get a many different answers, but I'll suggest, if your not hauling that much weight, and wheel base is a factor for you, I look into a single axle truck, with maybe a 435 cummins, 10 speed, Good luck

What exactly do you deliver and to what kinds of places ? A short wheel base single screw tractor sound about right. I'd go with 350 HP engine if you can. That way it's not struggling as much as a smaller power plant. I used to pull a set and we had city specced and hwy specced engines. Of course we used the city specs on the hwy and vice versa. But a run from SLC-Vegas you'll be glad you had some juice under the hood.

Freighliner Cascaida 2011 model plus Great Dane reefer scale off at 35460lb fully fueled that allows around 44540 lb of freight. Your gear ratio's also help your fuel economy depending on the motor and hp 3.25 would work if you want to run around 1400rpm @ 65 mph.

I saw a guy on Facebook recently selling a 95 T800 daycab with 122k original miles, had an M11 400 cummins with an 18 speed and all new rubber. I think it was in Oklahoma though.
