Getting ready to leave in a little bit to pick up a load. Rough numbers are $1950 plus FSC for the load to the company. 527 loaded miles on my odometer, so I make about 470 for the load on a weekday on my percentage, about 590 on a weekend at the higher weekend percentage. Load is corn starch (baby powder) in a pneumatic trailer. I'll let you do the math on the cpm basis, but it's in line with what we typically haul.

Customer typically has some delays, so I will probably pick up anywhere from 4-6 hours of detention time if things go as they often do.

Burky....how long will you be there to get 4-6 hours of detention?

You don't own the truck do you?

No, I'm a company driver. We allow two hours for unloading as part of the service and that is figured into the rate. After that, we charge for detention, based on the drivers judgement. I don't always charge it, it depends on the situation. if the customer is burning up my productive time, I'll file for detention. if I am just about done for the day, I probably won't. A lot of it depends on how hard they are trying to get me unloaded. This customer has a big tendencey to order more than their system can hold, and that is strictly their own fault, not anything that I have control over..

I don't often have that problem. Most of the places I go to I'm in and out of in 15 minutes or less.

But extra charges are based on drivers' judgement here as well. If someone orders a refrigerator and they want it in the garage, I can't in good conscience see charging someone an inside delivery fee for simply rolling a skid into their garage, even though that does warrant inside delivery charges.

But, if they want it removed from the pallet, and the pallet removed, then I'll hit them with the inside delivery charge.

On my company's bills there is a section in one of the top corners listing the extra services. I simply check them off as needed and the consignee initials next to it.

my dad and i have a set rate since we own the company and haul the same material every single night to pennslyvania and back to buffalo 10 trips a week between the two trucks 2.50 a mile x 600 miles(down and back) = 1500 plus a .35 cent fuel surcharge on the down miles only so 105 plus 50 for a drop off times ten trips is..... is usually round 16550 a week but then take out the fuel and costs it doesnt add up to much.... just thought id drop my 2 cents

from what i read on the previous post, that sounds like you'd be making a killing, even if you got poor fuel mileage. maybe i misunderstood what you were meaning???

WHAT would you define as a killing??????????? Using your mileage numbers and assuming your trucks only got 4 mpg (highly unlikely) and that fuel cost $3 a gallon (national average is not that high!) that leaves $12,050 a week split between two trucks after fuel. There are many many drivers out there running for $4000 to $5000 a week BEFORE fuel is taken out. I don't think there is much to complain out out of those numbers.
