Here is what I do whenever I use a new broker, which is becoming increasingly rare:
Rule 1. check credit rating using a credit service.
Rule 2. search the brokers name and MC number in the bad broker thread on this website.
    Rule 3. google them.
Rule 4: Never DH in the wrong direction, or into a bad area to load a new broker. If you DH 300 miles away from your house, to FL, with your RGN to load on a Friday night and the load doesn't exist, you are screwed. OTOH, if you DH 300 miles into the midwest, maybe not so bad.

    truckingqna Thanks this.

I give all my money away to a factor so, if the factor oks them I haul what they got. the other requirement is they are paying a lot to move there freight. So 1) credit good, 2) pays high rates.

I'd say your #1 and #2 are backwards. I call and know what it costs me to just run my truck for the mileage they quote. I add a little, then ask them what they're paying. If it isn't paying diddly squat, see ya and move onto the next. Dry van rates suck a toads gluteus maximus right now. Seriously, who the h-e-double-hockey-sticks can afford to stay in business running ANYWHERE @ $1.20 per mile???? I'm not in the business to "just break even"... Ever. I expect $1.65 per mile MINIMUM regardless of where I am or where I'm heading. And so far, I've gotten it plus some for every single load I've pulled. Granted, more often than not, they aren't anywhere near that at first. After we decide on a fair and decent rate, then I turn the brokers info over to my freight factoring company to approve. But, generally speaking, DAT and Internet Truck Stop shows credit scores and if the brokers credit rating is below 95, I don't even bother calling them.

i have a single broker i work with and always get the dollars we have had a working relationship for almost 2 years know and he knows what i expect if I have to go into a bad area he makes sure ahead of time he can get me out for a decent rate. the kind of trust I have for my broker is he has never lied to me ever if i have to take a load at $1.20 you better believe hes getting me out at $3.00 a mile and hes never failed me. if your working the load boards your screwed. when things got slow a couple months ago there wasn't anything running in my usual lanes which is mid west mostly I got me two coast to coast loads back to back running to Washington state and pick up in Oregon and back took a week and a half and got $10,700 for the 2 runs. forget the load boards find a good broker and you wont ever have to worry where your next load is coming from.

I heard CH Robinson charges 1.5% for their factoring service. This driver told me they have a nice loadboard/broker network as well. He seemed more than happy being part of their network.

I really don't think I believe that thats just way below the mark of what is considered the normal rate and as big as they are I just cant see them doing it that cheap unless its like a 5 day rate then it would make more since

UWT pays within 72 hrs of delivery and also charges 1.5%. CH Robinson is better to deal with IME.
