What are the things that you look for before doing business with a broker/brokerage?

So you don't care about their ability to pay, just have everything written in a email?

Pretty much 1) Will I get paid and in 30 days or less based on their credit score 2) Do I have a relationship already or are they worth the time to get set up based on the freight they have or lanes they have at the rates they offer

That's about it - if they have freight in lanes I like to run that pays well and I'm going to get paid then their in. If the answer is no to either then they're out.

I probably only have 5 or 6 brokers that I have everything current with and have hauled for in the past year, I have exactly 4 that owe me money right now. It's much easier to get in a profitable groove and keep your money (AP) straight when you only deal with a few good brokers.

    Thanks for your reply.

What is the average time to receive payment, 30 days? Anyone ever offer payment before that on a regular basis? What is the max amount of time you will agree to receive payments?

If they have a 99 or better, they will pay.

Those answers vary greatly depending on the depth of your pockets and broker.

30 days is a general rule. If they do direct deposit or ACH it's usually a little quicker. Mail is probably 35 days just because it's mail. I have one broker that is 15 days and direct account that is 45 days.

If a carrier requests a quick payment, how much do brokers/brokerages charge for that(on average)?
