Why do I think this is the beginning of a LP deal and OP is calling it an OO deal? Only have 2 options? ... When I buy a truck I have any option I want, because I can buy it from any dealer or person who is selling ... not what "the company" decides their "owner operators" will drive ...

OP, we need more specifics on what type of work this truck will do, where it will operate, the desired level of comfort, etc ... do you want maximum fuel economy? would you sacrifice some MPG for more comfort or to "look cool" ? Need more info ...

Sorry, I don't have all the info on the trucks yet. He is going to look at them and get back with me about that. All we know is the year and make right now. I know there where some Freightliners but it was 2009s and he wants something newer. He drives van, not flatbed, tank or refer. He was curious about fuel economy with the different types, but wants to put eyes on them first to look them over. This was really to see if people prefer Internationals or Peterbilts. He drives a Freightliner and loves the way they drive, he has driven a Volvo and hated it. But I understand it's all about the mechanics of the truck as well. We are looking for fuel economy, comfort, and drivability as well.

I would look in the section here , eighteen wheelers, and look in the sections for specific makes. that way you might could spot ones with known problems. you should look first at proper combinations of engine, transmission and gearing before you pin yourself down to a specific make.

a lot of answers here may be from a personal preference or what the guy is familiar with. I myself have not owned an international since the cabover days, but I have read in different forums of numerous electrical and sensor problems with intl prostar, not so much with peterbilt. I have a t600 kenworth myself, I happen to like being able to wave out the rh window without leaning over from the drivers seat.

I'll make it easy: Prostars are junk. Least liked truck for me by far. No experience with some of their other older stuff but those are crap. Even worse if it has the Maxxforce (haha) engine.

Funny thing is back in the day.. International and Mack were probably the 2 best work horse trucks money could buy. Nothing else compared except maybe a Diamond Rio or Western Star.

Seems the more electronics they add to a truck the more problems it will have.

I currently own an older Freightliner. Not the prettiest thing. But its paid for and the last year I have had zero mechanical issues. OEM hoses and wires showing their age are the only problems. Absolute money maker and work horse.

I agree with the comments about the interior. A lot of plastic and bs things loose and rattling in here. Cant begin to count how many tubes of silicone and duck tape I've got on things to quiet it down in here. Certainly lives up to the Freight-shaker stereotype.
