I am a freight agent can someone tell me why is it that when I call a phone number that is listed that a truck is available I cannot reach the driver. I have freight and when I tell the dispatch I have freight about 40 miles from the trucks requested destination, all I get is the truck needs a load exactly to that city. I am a truckers wife so I know if you get a driver close to there home or requested destination it is a good load for them. The dispatcher does not even contact the driver. Can someone tell me is it ok to ask for the drivers phone number? It seems to me the dispatch is treating the Owner Operator like he is a company driver because the dispatch is making the decision. I need some guidance on how to move the freight and also let the driver know I have freight going very close to their requested destination.
Dispatchers who do not contact the Driver when freight is avaialble

Sure ask. They can say no but may say yes.

if its a short haul some times its better to dead head home than go down 40 mi and go back or driver has a pick up in the city he needs to be and wont make it driving 40 miles
-
if the owner op has a disbatcher, they probably pay him to find loads for them.
I dont pay for a dispatcher directly, but it comes out of my % of load. My dispatcher knows where i want to run, what freight i like, what rate i haul for etc. He gives me options, but he alos can tell you no since he knows what i want. Driver cell problay wouldnt help since they are looking for somthing specific. -
If an owner operator has a dispatcher, there is no need for you to contact them directly unless they accept one of your loads.

Some companies will not let the driver book the ld. Has to be somebody higher up the food chain.
Heck 40 miles to where I wanted to go would work great for me..
What I hate is the dispatcher who calls and tells you about a ld. and the pay is in the toilet Tell them to call back with a counter offer. Oh I can't do that, Well I can. Give me the number. Some times it works, other times it doesn't and I don't do the ld.MJ1657, 281ric and double yellow Thank this. -
Most brokers that call me with a load going close to my home offer me less then 1/2 of what I can get. They all think their going to get huge profit off of me. I live in NH and I get paid really well to go home but they think their doing me a favor getting me home. I can pretty much go home anytime I want wherever I am.
281ric Thanks this. -
I get get that from the occasional Noob broker as well "well this will get you home!" I get a good laugh in and que them in to the fact that I'm going home either way: and if the freight they have doesn't pay well, it won't be along for the ride.Skate-Board, passingthru69, 281ric and 1 other person Thank this. -
