Might just be tired of looking at it. Buddy of mine was medically disqualified. His truck had 180k on in frame,he sold his for the price of the in frame kit. You'll just have to look it over, and know some things may give trouble from not being used.

6NZ is the best cat motor they made I think, at $20,k Id be a buyer just keep in mind your going to have problems the W9 im in was parked almost two years I didn't make it two weeks before I lost a injector two weeks after that another so I changed all of them, every time I turned around water leaks I ended up doing water pump and everyhose on the motor.....problem solved, than wheel seals blew one front changed it few weeks later other side ended up doing all on the truck.

The tires didn't last that he had on the truck when he parked it tires had 200,k 40,k on steers and when I picked it up they were five years old but they didn't last not one tire is the same on this truck a year later.

i finally got mine right after about $18,k after buying it but it's really shaped out to be a good one. Like someone else said Its better to get a truck that has not been parked but like I said at $20,k Id buy it you can't go wrong even if you buy it park it for a few months and have to build up some more cash.

One more thing I don't think he will let you dyno the truck I feel it's a take it or leave it deal the guy I got this one from told me that same thing he said if you don't think its a good deal than find another someone will take it..he wouldn't even let me take it down the road but it was $20,k cheaper than anything else on truck paper....GOOD LUCK!!

That to me sounds like an absolute steal if its legit. You cant go wrong with that motor. I average 5.9 mpg with a classic mid roof pulling a Conestoga at 71mph cruise set at 1550 rpms. Has some ecm work and a marine cam. She could probably pull the moon out of the sky if you could hook a chain to it.

Hurst, you go ahead and buy that truck and when you are done with it in a few years (if you decide it isn't worth fixing) I will buy it from you at that time and rebuild the entire thing. Only thing I would make sure of is the frame is in good condition(not rusted to hell). Everything else can be rebuilt/replaced. The 6NZ performs very well and MPG is steady every day of the week. When I drove a company w9 with a 6NZ I got 6.5 every day, pulling heavy reefers mainly on the east coast. I drove it from 1,394,000 km to 1,888,000 km and had zero problems. The boss would not sell me this truck. It is one of those engines that will work longer than you want to work it. I can't say enough good about the 6NZ.

Go take a look at it and decide for yourself , when the word PETERBILT is mentioned most forget that they are just trucks and can have the same problems as any other maker. That version of CAT is a good motor and as far as fuel mileage he has quoted you realistic #s and as for it been sitting if your worried and do buy it , replace the wheel seals and hoses / belts its not MEGA MILLIONS . As for the old guy starting at $320K and dropping it to $20K CASH , likely wants to get rid of it and maybe your the guy he wants to have it.

I have owned a few PETERBILTS :) over the years

20k sounds reasonable give the old girl a decent sniff then try to decide as fast as possible understanding used iron has warts also old guys don't want to spend a lot of time being stroked hence the lower price. He has made up his mind to part with the truck now go ahead and end his misery quickly.
