    hello .
i know it may sound silly but this is what i am planning to do and would like to hear an advise from experienced people.
i am joining trucking industry and for the start i should ve go work as a company driver for a while before becomeing o/o but i have different situation and i got truck and trailer and would like to start as an oo . i drove 1,5 months with another driver to learn what and how to do , now i will be starting it myself . so i have few questions and would like you to help me with that .
again as most of you think it is not good idea but this is what it is and i already purchased truck and trailer .
    1. for new driver it is hard to find a dispatcher who will take you under his insurance , it is also hard to obtain insurance by myself , so in this is case should i get my own authority or just keep looking for another dispatchers ?( if you know one who can help me please provide . thanks )
    2. will big companies hire a new driver with his own truck and trailer ?(new cdl , truck is volvo 2006)
    3. if i get my own authority will this still be hard to find a broker who will work with you ?( in this case what should i do )

    thank you all
    Bob

You've only driven a month and a half and you've already bought your own tractor and trailer? Wow.

Everything I've seen companies all want 6-12 months of experience, given that you have your own truck, if you had your own insurance you might be able to get a contract with a carrier that has an o/o program, but it's probably going to be tough.

If anything you should lease on with a carrier and run under their authority. With only a month and a half experience I'm going to have to say you don't have any idea what you're getting yourself into and pushing ahead with no knowledge will land you in bankruptcy fast.

I dunno I don't really think he has many (if any) options. I really don't think any carrier is going to touch him and let him run under their own authority. Hell with most of the bigger carriers, they want to see at least 6 months-1 year for a driver to come on board as an "experienced" company driver, let alone owner/ops. The smaller carriers tend to be even more picky it seems. I've never had my own authority so I can't say for certain but it seems to me that running under his own authority wouldn't be much of an option for him either, insurance would be insanely expensive if not impossible to find and good luck finding a broker to work with when he has a total of one and a half months of experience.

If I were stuck in his position, and the truck payments weren't too expensive, I would keep the truck and trailer, park them, find a good company that would let me lease on as an o/o in the future, start working for them as a company driver to get more experience in, then once I had the experience lease my truck on with them.

    Good luck :\

So what's the original owner of the truck's reasoning for selling it? Leaving the business? Injury? Newer truck? If they are an owner/operator, perhaps they could subcontract work to you that way?

    spongebob1 Thanks this.

thank you guys for your comments and advises .
original owner is leaving this business and that is the reason he is selling his truck .

If they are an owner/operator, perhaps they could subcontract work to you that way? - how should i get insurance then ?i know i can use his old contacts but most important right now is to get an insurance

Get more experience before trying the O/O thing, if you don't ? Your just setting yourself up for failure, can you succeed with 1.5 months under your belt? Maybe, but not likely
