    hey guys

I am looking at buying a truck I am not sure what the maximum wheel base length I can go with while not being over a maximum length of 65 feet.

I would like to pull a 48ft step deck trailer

What is the longest wheelbase truck I can use while pulling a 48ft step deck?

    Thanks

    just rough calculation

    65'-48'=17

considering the front of the trailer is going to sit probably 6-12 inches in front of the center of the front drive axle and 4' center from the center of the forward axle to to the center of the rear axle were say + 4.5

    17+4.5= 21.5, 21.5x12=258"

not sure how accurate that will be but that's what i would guess

one thing i forgot to account for is center of steer axle to the front bumper for total vehicle length so you would be have to be a bit shorter yet

To be 65' OA you need 216" WB or less on an aero type truck with a set-back front axle. With a regular conventional you have to be 235" or less. These numbers assume a 36" kingpin on a 48' trailer. I live in an area with a lot of 65' length limits. I had a problem with my 216" WB Cascadia & a 48' curtain van. Sliding the 5th wheel far enough ahead to get down to 65' put me over 13K on my steers. With a regular conventional that has the fuel tanks back you won't transfer as much weight to the steers.

do you think its possible to stay at or under the 65 foot overall length with a conventional rig that has a 60" sleeper pulling a 48ft step deck trailer?
