Thanksgiving became a thing of the past many years ago for me. One day that became a 4 day holiday for people who work 40 hour weeks with every weekend off. Really screws drivers up that want to keep working in hopes of time off between the big time of Xmas and New Years. One of my friends calls Thanksgiving, Xmas and New Years the "Tri-F**hta". At least we can be thankful that there is a bit of freight to move to keep some money coming in until everyone gets back to work next week.

I enjoy the home time with family during the holidays, but it can play havoc with drivers and their income during this time. So many people take holidays off and unless drivers can pick up or deliver, there is little incentive to be on the road. It isn't fun being stranded at a truck stop during holidays. For those on the road and at home, I wish all of you a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!! Be safe.

"OTR holiday pay?" ROTFLAO. Personally, I like driving on holiday periods. Some traffic start and end, but there's always traffic, and the roads are more uncrowded. Since my cancer problem, every day is a holiday. Thanksgiving? For me, every time I wake up on the green side of the grass is a holiday. (borrowed)

    blairandgretchen and pattyj Thank this.

Conway truckload pays holiday pay 5 or 6 times a year as long as you work at least 1 day in the holiday week.

I guess you're talking about company pilots, Double? Or in the office, maybe? I did get a $15 meal gift perk for working when I was a company driver.

we get $100 holiday pay as long as we log 4hrs+ on line 3 or 4 on any of 7 holidays we recognize.

Between choosing to spend the day with a bunch of relatives I never see and don't like or getting the holiday pay + 650 miles + 30 for the d/h......well lol

i took the money of course. And still will be home by Saturday morning.

    Starboyjim Thanks this.

They might have implemented it after you left. Here's last year's paystub for Thanksgiving week:

They still do $15 for a driver appreciation meal and $25 per year of service for an additional Christmas bonus.

    blairandgretchen Thanks this.

I am home this year, but there have been many years that I've spent on the road. To all of you that are out there this weekend I want to say thank you for doing what you do. God bless you and stay safe.
