And I had two pre EGR 12.7s that were less than stellar. The first, a 94, went 840,000KM and then two slipper bushings fell apart, necessitating and entire tear down to fix. The second, a 2001 broke a liner at 160,000 KM and made like a steam engine.

When they tore it down and pulled the injector (on a recall that was scheduled ) all the O rings were mangled and not sealing.

Others have had great luck with theirs. It's a crapshoot.

Hi spyder, these people were egg salesmen, they couldn't spec out a truck if their life depended on it. Eggs were kinda light, but backhauls of cheese and butter were heavy. Like I say, we knew new trucks were coming, but they wouldn't tell us anything. When they did come in, all the drivers looked at each other and we laughed.. We said, you're kidding right? You want us to pull 80K lb. loads with these morphodites? Of course, they all thought WE were nuts. Fine. Well, a few months in, they started to realize, hmm, maybe the driver's were right. They were already starting to use oil, and the classic, "what's taking you so long to get back?" HELLO, we're going 40 mph on the hills, and 50 on the level. The next trucks had the 300 L-10 (oh boy) which were a little better, but not much. It was the classic case of penny wise, dollar foolish.

Speccing for light loads and pulling heavy. A lot of guys have that brain fart.

When I first started driving ( JB Hunt ) my trainer had a 1989 International with an L-10 Cummins. With a heavy load on an upgrade you were doing 14 mph in 4th gear. No jake. Them were the days. I think it was rated at 300 hp. Torque?? None that I know of. Pitiful. Plus, it had an issue with the shutdown system. Every now and then it would shut itself off. Plus, it was all spring ride. If you were exhausted, you would sleep about 4 hours. And then all it took was one good bump and you were wide awake. I could feel my organs bouncing around in my body.

I've never met anyone that has owned one that could be explained any other way.
