How come most owner operators pay 1099. Are there owner operators that pay cash? Wouldn't you guys think that they may attract more drivers that way.

Taxes. Laws. Regulations. And prison. Staying out of prison is more important than attracting more bad drivers.

1099 IS paying cash, filing the 1099 is how they keep from paying your taxes.

    DesiTrucker and Cetane+ Thank this.

1099 is a tax form making you a self employed person.
I think this driver wants cash no paper trail. So they can not pay taxes like the rest of us poor folks.

O/O's need receipts for tax purpose. I pay you for some I want a paper trail for tax write off..

Guy want's to get paid "under the table". Umm, I would never risk my business to save YOU paying taxes and risk me losing everything when Uncle Sam starts poking around my accounting.

You do not to work as a driver for someone else and get paid via a 1099. More than likely you are not covered by workman's comp and if you get injured on the job, probably not covered by workman's comp. You are just out on your own. Plus why would ANYONE want to pay 15% plus or minus off the top for taxes when as an employee you are only responsible for 1/2 of that, the employer pays the other half.

I prefer to pay with CAT scale trading cards. It's not going real well.

If you pay someone in unreported cash, you need to pay them about half of the going rate in order to come out on top. I don't think that there are very many people willing to work that cheap just to avoid filing taxes.
