Heres what i was told from another Op,i want the Guys who Running Pre Egr 12.7 Detroit 60 series 470 to tell me what they Average MPG is and do they believe what dis guy told me.What do yall think im sure ill get mixed reviews.

    Heres his Quote:

[TD="colspan: 2"]For years I ran that truck with the cruise control on, wherever it was practical. When I would talk to people about fuel economy, I always heard that for my engine, 5.5 to 6 mpg was about right. However, some guys would tell me that they were getting 7 mpg and better out of a Series 60. I couldn't imagine my engine giving me 7 mpg and I wondered whether or not I should believe such claims.

One day, upon the advice of another trucker, I installed a boost gauge on the panel of my Freightliner. When I saw what that gauge did, while the cruise was turned on, I realized that there was something to what that fellow had been telling me. He had said that the cruise control was no fuel saver. He said I'd do better by turning it off and keeping an eye on the boost gauge. I followed his advice and for sure, I'm getting 7 mpg out of my engine. In fact, I was getting 7 mpg with a large rupture in the CAC, a leaking manifold gasket, and a need for an overhead adjustment. With black smoke pouring out of the exhaust, I had still jumped up to 7 mpg.

I have fixed the smoke problem by replacing manifold gaskets, the CAC, and doing an overhead. I have not pulled a load yet, but I would not be surprised if my Series 60 now gets me even better than 7 mpg. By the way, that is an honest 7 mpg calculated over an entire quarter - miles driven divided by fuel purchased - usually loaded between 55,000 and 80,000 gross weight and pulling hills.

What do yall think about this any truth and what modifications if any have you done to increase MPG?

Idk about 7 with a bad gasket or leaking charge air cooler. That sounds unlikely.

i have a factory 430 pre EGr. It's modded a little bit now. Ifta quarterlies are 6.2/6.4 summertime 4/10 lower in winter. I don't strive for fuel economy so much. It wouldn't be hard to do better.

Thanks for your reply,i know yo can, well atleast get to 6 with no problem but i think 7 is a Stretch, not saying its not possible but if anybody is getting 7 i would lovd to know 6 is what i average, but dont mind tweaking the system a bit and i wonder does a boost gauge really make that much of a difference.

Can't hurt to have one. Keep you informed anyway. Someone told me the Scangauge product will display your boost pressure. I've gotten 7 tank to tank. Not on the regular, but again it's not something I really chase. Can it be done? Yeah I expect so. Don't stay into the pedal all the time, get up to speed nice n easy.

Grossing 80k its going to tough to get great fuel mileage. What rpm do you cruise at?

Also what are the loads like? Bunch of pipes or huge wind catching equipment?
