    Google map shows 2103 mile---- via I-84/82/90/94
    2167----------- I84/80/39/43

    Both can be dangerous bobtail , on snow, ice and high winds; I would watch the weather before I decide the route, 60 miles difference means nothing, about 20$ diesel; I used to pull apples from Yakima, WA to Toronto via 90/ I-90/94 through Dakotas and can get way colder than I-80, and the hills in western Montana are worst ; check above the weather, looks like more snow on northern route;

    I bobtail about 20,000 miles per year in the cabover you see in the avatar. Usual precautions, but I guess I am so used to it I am ready for the handling differences, particularly braking. If it were up to me I would bobtail all the time. I can park in the space of a dually pickup, in any parking lot. Overnights are even better. Of course my buddy says my brain has already turned to mush because I have been driving cabovers for 39 years...

    I bobtailed 800 miles to Kansas City to pick up a trailer I had bought sight unseen. Yes it was worth it, or I wouldn't have made the deal. I figured the deadhead trip cost to go get it against the price, along with some minor repair work and an annual DOT it needed when I got there.

    This doesn't make sense? How about if you are terminated from this company, you will have to drive 2k miles back home. Why can't they ship the trailer to your area?

    Nah, I wouldn't do it.

    No NO NO!!!!

    YOU will lose a lot more.

    Learn how to account for your maintenance, your insurance and so on.

    YOU may find that your 2k trip will cost you close to a buck a mile.

    Start thinking like an Owner, stop thinking like a driver.

    Maybe you should have the trailer shipped out to you?

    Ever call to get a quote?

    If the guy you have hired can't find something to get you out there, get rid of him and find someone else, there are loads going out west all the time, even if you take one that covers expenses.

    He can pick it up alot cheaper than someone can deliver it to him. Like he said, once he's there, he can get a load with the new trailer.
