I will be bobtailing to Milwaukee WI from west coast. Anybody has any good advise?

So far I got one good idea, which is to cover my fifth wheel to prevent dirt and send getting on it.

Advise about firing my dispatch is under consideration :)

drive cautiously in the rain and snow

you should already have grease on your fifth wheel, if not, add some more, no such thing as too much grease

Take your time! Remember, bobtails don't have the traction of a loaded trailer. Little downward pressure on your drive tires, makes braking tricky. Also easier to hydroplane on wet surfaces. If the chain laws are up in the mountains, I wouldn't chance it bobtail (traction again).

Have you considered running south and around Pikes Peak?

That many miles, I would look for a power only load and add the weight to the truck and pay to the account
That far with no trailer will be a ride

Hi GYPSY, that's a good idea. I have seen companies that do that. To Crazy Alex, I hope you are getting paid to do that, otherwise you are indeed crazy.:biggrin_25526:

You can find power only loads on the boards like getloaded, usually can get a load of container trailers going somewhere

    I'm brand new O/O…going to pick up a trailer…

I can't get my dispatch guy to find me anything….I think it will cost me more to sit around waiting for something to pop up.
    The fuel is cheap,so I will loose about $700 and 3 days…
I will get loaded on my way back,though...

Who did you lease on to? You would think they would have anything closer. Maybe you should rethink this company
