Skate-Board is correct. It is up to the insurance companies whether a carrier can hire you. Unless the insurance company will cover you the carrier cannot afford to hire you. Depending on the insurance company, drivers may be approved with up to 3 moving violations. I know one major carrier that used to hire drivers with up to 4 moving violations. The lowered that to 2 moving violations due to insurance requirements.
Can you get hired with 3 tickets

I had 2 tickets, each was 1.5 points. California limit is 4 points so one more ticket they would have pulled my CDL. Well going into 4th year with no tickets now. Just need to buckle down and professional up.

Insurance companies don't look at the points. They look at the infraction. If you have a speeding ticket where you were caught doing 15 mph over the posted speed limit, that could prevent some from accepting you. I had that happen with an applicant once. He had a perfect record but for one ticket. It was the speed at which he was ticketed that made it impossible for me to hire him. I had preferred rates with my insurance company and had to hire drivers with pretty good mvr's. Otherwise, I could not cover them on my insurance. Each insurance company is different as to how they look at risk. One factor is your entire workforce of drivers. They might accept a driver with more tickets if you have 1,000 drivers in the fleet with good mvr's and csa scores. The cell phone ticket would be a red flag for many carriers since that could mean an $11,000 fine for the carrier if you are caught talking on your cell phone while in one of their trucks. That is a high risk. Most carriers will not hire a driver with more than 3 tickets due to insurance. I have a friend who had four tickets and I could only have hired him with a big bump in my insurance rates. The only reason they would even have considered covering him is due to my safety score and longevity with them. Premium rates are dependent, in part, on driver history, such as mvr and csa. I understand you need to get back to work. It will be easier for you once one of the tickets drop off your record after 3 years. If you have a good record other that those tickets and good csa scores, you should be able to find a carrier that will take a chance on you. It may take time, but there are thousands of carriers. I have no doubt someone will hire you. My friend had to find a job in a slightly different field until a couple of his tickets dropped off his record. He is more careful now.

A paragraph (from the Greek paragraphos, "to write beside" or "written beside") is a group of sentences with one topic. It is also a self-contained unit of a discourse in writing dealing with a particular point or idea. A paragraph consists of one or more sentences. -
Three tickets for what and in what time frame?
-
That is what the tickets where for. -
I am a driver employed by a Corp that I operate. A few years back I was the recipient of I think 3 tickets in a 12 month period while driving a 4 wheeler.
1. Had an inspired insurance card in the company pickup truck.
2. Speeding (small one, no points IIRC).
3. Seat belt.
Also, IIRC I had an older speeding and and older seat belt in the last 3 yrs. So 5 tickets total in last 3 yrs I think. No claims no accidents in any vehicle.
The Corp was paying $14,000 with Markell for truck my insurance and Markell dropped me because I had 3 in a 12 month period. I called another broker who represented ALL the insurance companies and he got the corp on with Old Republic and the bill was only $7,000/yr for me. Old Republic didn't care about minor tickets they care about claims and accidents so that's who I should have been with all along.
So the answer is yes there are insurance companies that will insure you but you ain't making it easy. You won't have the pick of the litter as far as trucking companies are concerned.Eamac2004 Thanks this. -
