I have a 20' shipping container full of cargo being delivered tomorrow. I have cleared a parking area on the street that is 55' long.

I need to know if this is enough room.

What is the total length of the truck from front to back when hauling a 20' container? The driver will need to be able to 'parallel park' in the space, and we will need a few feet in back to open the container and unload cargo.

I understand there are different truck lengths, but in general will I be OK with 55' of curb space in between 2 other parked cars?

I need an answer ASAP! Delivery is at 10am tomorrow. Might need to go knock on doors to find out who owns some of these cars to make more space.

    Thanks for the help!

You should have 5ft. to spare after opening rear trailer doors before trying to get truck in parking spot you cleared.

You should contact the driver bringing it to ask how much room they need.

Just because it is a 20' container doesn't mean that the trailer is 20'. They could have loaded the container on a 53’ step deck for all you know so there is really no way of knowing without asking the one who is bringing it.

I'm 59' 6" from nose to tail. That is a 240" tractor with a set forward axle, pulling a 39' end dump. IF the container is on a 20' chassis, you're looking at around 40' overall length with a short sleeper truck or a long day cab. Unfortunately, with bridge laws what they are, sometimes they'll put those short containers on longer chassis in order to avoid being overweight. If that is the case, there is no telling how long it might be.

Your best bet would be to call the company that will be making the delivery and find out how long the combination will be that is making the delivery. Chances are good the 55' you have cleared will be sufficient. Then again, it might not be. Just when you THINK you've got it figured out, Murphy's Law rears its ugly head...

You need to know whether the driver is bringing the container on a chassis, flat or step deck. Unless you can speak with the driver, I would count on a length of 65-75', just for the equipment to be safe. I pull a 53' step deck and occasionally pull a container. I usually will pull a 40' container, but have pulled 20'. A chassis will need less space. If you can't find out the length then I would allow for a longer rig.

Or it could be a 20 foot container on a tri-axle...
