I have been in the trucking business since 1989. Have been an owner-operator since 1996, and a company owner since 2004. My question to all of you that have invested in a truck and trailer, what on earth makes you think that .90 a mile+ fSC is good money? I see ads all the time and have for 20+ years seeking owner-operators for rates just above company driver. Our owner-operators have averaged 1.60-over 3 a mile for a very long time. And today, you guys that are getting .90 plus fuel your companies are making a hauling because rates are holding steady. Just my rant. Be safe guys and gals.

I agree, what's the point? You can go up to Montreal and flip open the yellow paget to escorts and have a lot more fun pissing away your money

If you will move my freight for 90c + FSC I'll let you do that all day long. But why? If you are not finding loads paying $1.75 -$3.00 +FSC after being an O/O this long you are doing something wrong. Do you have your own authority or leased to a company?

Because companies have told guys .90 a mile is where it's at and throwing on the FSC they get $1.30-1.40 a mile and think they're rolling in the dough. The one thing you don't need out here is brains.

I have had my own authority for many years. I just see all these compaies that are still paying .90 plus fsc. Dart, Heartland, Werner. Hershback brand new pay package 1.00+ fsc. I am simply asking some of you guys, why on earth do you still think thats good wages?

Especially in todays market. I had a broker call me from TQL today about a load from clark sd to grand forks nd. She asked what i needed, it was only 270 miles, I told her 1250.00 she asked why all we want all these big rates when fuel is way down, my reply was real simple. Did you care about the price of fuel when it was 5.15 a gallon, and you had 3 trucks for every .70 a mile load you wanted to haul? she had no answer. Than I told her that the reason we can ask for the rates we do, is because they got their freight moved for 3 years for near nothing and those that hauled it are no longer amonst us. She hung up. LOL

The brokers are getting those big rates. Its funny they are offended for you asking for the money to do the work while they practically collect money for nothing.

I don't think most drivers haul that cheap all the time. my belief is they haul at a decent rate most times & so when in a bad area, haul cheap. there is always some one in "that area' that needs to get out and will do so at a lower rate. I'll admit when I first started driving & unloaded in n. OH, IN, IL. area. after sitting running my truck on slow freight times, when dispatcher called with a load 20 miles away going to within 20 miles from home. I took it. today I get 2.50-2.75 that's with the f.s.c. but NO dead head most of the time. being home every day, not running the truck all night & other benefits can add up to a better bottom line even with the lower rate. take also for example My fuel discount. I worked 4 day's a couple weeks ago. home everyday. with my 99.9 discount on 2 of those days my fuel saving was $312.00 now that is part of my expense or part of my revenue, depending on how you look at it. plus there are times no matter who you are... if you have shippers direct or not, ans they need you.. YOU are there! you take care of them, cause they take care of you, so at times they will ask you to take a load not in your usual booking, but to help them out in a bind & that will not always be a good load. then ya have to figure in the route.

I have this gentle mans disagreement with my own fellow drivers. 1 pays 1.25 a hundred wt the other pays 1.00 a hundred wt, but the lower rate is interstate all the way & 2 miles on a 4 ln road door to door with a 24 hour receive. the higher rate is same miles but 60 miles 2 lane & a 6 to 2 receive time. plus the higher rate area put's us at min 1 hour min drive away from closest reload & lower rate we are with in 5 min from 1 place then there are other places to reload out of. all of which are interstate of 65 m.p.h. 4 ln. so there is much more that just .90 a mile. though I totally agree with a lot THAT DO drive for .90 regularly. what gets me is the rate cutters, that cut so cheap as to only haul for a few weeks or month or so until their freight picks up, then they dump it all, cut & run. anyway enough of my thoughts..just finished my big cup of coffee, :biggrin_25517: be safe..

I don't what the fsc is these days, i am going to guess down somewhere around .27 or so. so some of these poor guys are running their truck for less than what they would make driving a company truck. I always thought the purpose of buying a truck was to get paid what your actually worth.
