    How can this be done?
Do you have to call in like a heavy haul type deal or can you do it another way.
I feel like this is a stupid question but my wife and I are arguing about what has to be done to do it.
The loads in question are not over-sized or over anything. Just normal load of about 30,000 lbs.

you will need vehicle inpections on equipment, personel file for drive, DOT, MC number, insurance, IRP plates, 2290, IFTA/ucr if going across state lines, be set up for a random drug testing. I may have left something out, it's not as easy as baking a cake

Do you have your MC and are asking about intrastate moves?

If it's intrastate it varies from state to state. In Arkansas you just need a K tag and happy trails. No DOT number etc. Some states do require in state authority. Texas being one of them

No, I'm talking about interstate. Company has interstate authority but only in certain states. I'm talking about taking a load through and to a state that you dont have authority to run. Sure there is a way but I'll bet its complicated.

no its not complicated at all, you just get single trip permits, order thru comdata, you will have in a few minutes. you got the authority, you just don't have em listed on the irp tag, but with tag renewal this year that point will be moot

Each state is different. For example Missouri is 50 bucks for 72 hour trip and fuel permit. Texas is 169 for a 144 hour trip and fuel. Mississippi only sells a trip for 25 bucks but requires you buy fuel at the first chance upon entering there state. I think all that info is in a motor carrier atlas if you want to look up the states you need
